Position Description Summary

APT Research is hiring a Junior Software Safety Analyst to perform independent safety analysis in support of the CH-47 CARGO Program Office on Redstone Arsenal, AL in Huntsville, AL.

Tasks include (but are not limited to):

  • Perform tasks focused on the development of software safety analysis, test, and contribution to potential safety risk

  • Identifying, documenting, and tracking resolution of software safety requirements and changes

  • Perform peer reviews of software safety documentation and analyses including, but not limited to, Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), Hazard Tracking System, etc.

  • Review software and system test (STP, STD, STR) documentation for inclusion in software system safety related requirements and assess test data to verify/validate system safety requirements

  • Developing and coordinating presentations for required technical review boards and internal change boards

    Required Experience/Education:

  • ABET accredited BS degree in Engineering or Computer Science, or similar degree field

  • Two to Five (2-5) years of professional or operational experience in safety engineering

  • Working knowledge of software development standards, safety principles, regulations, and practices including experience carrying out hazard control techniques as well as conducting risk analysis on DOD aviation systems

  • Working knowledge of MIL-STD-882E, RTCA DO-178B/C and supplements, RTCA DO-254, RTCA DO-278A, JSSEH, AMCOM Regulation 385-17, SAE ARP 4761, or similar safety standards

  • Ability to travel up to 10%

  • US Citizenship required

    Security Clearance Requirement:

  • An active secret security clearance is required.

    Preferred Experience:

  • Identify, document, and track resolution of software safety requirements and changes

  • Develop Safety Assessment Reports (SAR), Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), etc.

  • Performing peer review analysis of code written in programming languages, such as C++ or Ada

  • Experience in a DOD environment

  • Local to Huntsville, AL area

    Essential Job Functions:

    Work Environment:

  • Work will be performed in a hybrid environment, including telework and on-site at Cargo Project Office on Redstone Arsenal.

  • Requires in-person attendance at weekly project-related meetings

  • Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate, and timely communication, both verbally and written

  • Ability to interact professionally with coworkers, management, and customers

    Travel Requirements:

  • Requires ability to travel up to 10%

    Physical Requirements:

  • Requires sitting for extended periods of time at a workstation / desk

    Other Essential Functions:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgement

  • Work attire must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk / hazard to the employee or others
