Position Summary: JMT is currently seeking a full time Senior Geotechnical Engineer for our headquarters office in Hunt Valley, MD. Project types will include a wide variety of high-profile projects including, highways, bridges, aviation, rail & transit, marine and ports, water and wastewater, and buildings and facilities. Notable projects include Long Bridge North, I-95 ETL Lanes, Harry W Nice/Thomas “Mac” Middelton Bridge Replacement. and Alexandria Waterfront Improvements.
Compensation is $85,000. - $92,000. annually, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Responsible for management and oversight of geotechnical investigations
Development and implementation of subsurface investigation programs consisting of test borings, cone penetrometer, dilatometer and geophysical surveys
Perform engineering analysis of soils and rock, for design of shallow and deep foundation systems, slope stability, excavations, permanent and temporary retaining systems, dewatering systems and soil improvement
Assist in preparation of geotechnical reports and memoranda
Assist in preparation of construction documents including plans, specifications, and cost estimates
Conduct and manage on-site geotechnical inspection and engineering services during construction

Required SkillsRequired Experience
MS degree in Geotechnical Engineering
3 to 5+ years geotechnical engineering experience including analysis, report writing, and proposal preparation required.
Experience with geotechnical software similar to or including gINT, SLIDE, SETTLE3, LPILE, ALLPILE, ReSSA, etc., and LRFD design.
Propensity and proficiency for problem solving, both in the office and in the field, and have successfully developed innovative solutions to various geotechnical challenges
Work independently and as part of a team
Strong writing/verbal skills in order to work with team members, clients, and contractors.
Perform field assignments which include, but are not limited to, walking and climbing through areas that have steep slopes or other natural obstacles.
Candidates must be capable of working on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast paced team-oriented environment.
Coordination with clients, contractors, outside consultants and firm staff is expected.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Experience
Professional Engineer certification preferred.
Proficiency in MicroStation/CADD preferred.
Experience working on Federal, State, County and local projects
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment. Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
