PrimeFlight Aviation Services Safety Manager in Humble, Texas

The IAH Safety Manager reports to the Director of Safety and Security for PF Cargo, responsible for the implementation, maintenance and day-to-day administration and operation of the Safety Management System (SMS) at the station level on behalf of the Accountable Executive.

The IAH Safety Manager is further accountable for establishing Safety (Ground/Ramp Safety, Warehouse Safety, Hot Weather Safety, and Airports Safety) design, processes, procedures, tools, and metrics that will allow the company to be the Ground Handler of choice.

Responsible for the Stations performance in operational safety. Leads the team with all safety initiatives to ensure the safety of our employees, passengers, and property, while achieving operational, customer experience and financial objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for oversight and assurance of required safety initiatives at the assigned stations with a specific focus on the review of existing and proposed ground handling and safety policies, procedures and actions, along with identifying threats, adverse trends, risks, hazards and best practices in order to ensure the continuous improvement of the SMS

  • Conduct quality and compliance observations for verification of ground safety activities and initiatives including employee safety performance monitoring, adherence to SOPs; vehicle, aircraft, and other ground service equipment reviews

  • Station expert for SMS - provides Safety, Quality Assurance, Human Factors and SMS training/coaching as required to support employees and management concerning safety and QA operations

  • Manages internal Quality Program in order to monitor compliance with, as applicable: FAA, International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (ISAGO) Standards and Recommended Practices (ISARPS), business partners Standard operating Procedures, Ensure Safety policy and procedures are effectively implemented within the station and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act and other safety/security requirements on a City, State and Federal level.

  • Conduct self-audits. Ensure self-audits are conducted on regular basis. Where audit activities have revealed vulnerabilities, ensure identification and addressing of root cause and implementation of corrective measures to address root as well as means to verify effectiveness

  • Promotes corporate standards for safety, security, occupational health and safety.

  • Fosters and encourages a positive, proactive safety culture

  • Supports the stations in meeting their safety objectives and priorities

  • Provides reports on safety performance to the senior leadership

  • Oversee the administration of safety incident reports and non-compliance activities ensuring all management are effectively trained and able to identify and resolve workplace hazards.

  • Assists the station management team with identifying, investigating and managing incidents, ensuring that all have prioritized corrective or preventative actions

  • Acts as designated investigator of safety incidents/accidents where required

  • Assists the station management team in the identification of corrective or preventive actions to address audit findings

  • Provides oversight and assistance to ensure all Corporate Safety programs have been implemented, validated and under the responsibility of an appropriate manager

REQUIREMENTS

  • Determines Stations Safety, processes, procedures, tools, roles and responsibilities and metrics

  • Manages the retention of: Accident/Incident information involving Aircraft damage/Ground Service Equipment damage and near miss details - Employee injury statistics

  • Manages Airports internal/external Quality Program(s) in order to monitor compliance with, as applicable: FAA regulations and requirements, International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (ISAGO) Standards and Recommended Practices (ISARPS)

  • Manages and is responsible for performance of the corporate safety program, and for ensuring communication and coordination with appropriate authorities, customer airlines, subcontractors and operational managers.

  • Authority (ability or obligation to carry out responsibilities) Implements & Communicates Airports Safety design, processes, procedures, tools, roles and responsibilities and metrics.

  • Work varied shifts to include a weekend each month as well as overnight shifts as needed

  • Carry out other duties as assigned

  • Continuously stand and walk for 6-8 hours

  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include: ability to see with or without corrective lenses

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may become high at various times. Employee must be willing to wear/utilize company-supplied personal protective equipment (hearing protection) to mitigate their noise exposure.

  • Some work is in an outside environment, with exposure to hot and cold temperatures and inclement weather.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 18 years of age and live in the Houston area

  • Reliable transportation

  • Able to follow PrimeFlight Aviation safety guidelines for transporting the physically challenged

  • Able to efficiently communicate verbally and written

  • Understand financial principles

  • License(s), attestation(s), certification(s), association(s) required

  • Health & Safety Auditing Skills and Techniques

  • Accident Investigation Training

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate effectively in English.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

  • Computer, tablet, or smart phone ability

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School education or GED required, Associate Degree, or higher preferred

  • Six months experience required, one year experience preferred

  • Has or will obtain OSHA 30 certification within 90 days

  • Has or will obtain HAZWOPER certification within 90 days
