Transportation Engineer IIIPerforms advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Transportation Engineer IVPerforms highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.Essential Duties:Transportation Engineer IIIPerforms advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Performs data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, forecasts, assessments, and plan development.Answers technical and policy questions related to bridge inspection and maintains bridge inspection data; analyzes data and provides summaries.Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.Develops and reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.Interprets maintenance standards, rules, methods, procedures, practices and policies.Monitors consultants' progress and work quality; checks invoices and associated documents; prepares supplemental agreements.Provides technical assistance in drainage design, resolution of drainage complaints, hydraulics evaluations and other hydrology matters.Reviews and revises schematics, PSE, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management systems.Reviews, coordinates, monitors and approves routine and emergency maintenance contracts; performs/oversees maintenance specifications writing/review, plans and proposal review, and preparation of estimates for letting.Trains engineering staff.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer IVIncludes all essential duties listed for Transportation Engineer III as well as:Coordinates and/or monitors consultant contracts related projects.Maintains a critical bridge list and coordinates with the Bridge Division, area engineers and other district staff on critical findings involving state-maintained bridges to have them posted, repaired and/or closed to the traveling public.Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.Performs, reviews and monitors detailed investigations, data collection, analyses and coordination of bridge related research and recommends cost effective project level design for new, rehabilitated and reconstructed bridges.Recommends prioritization of bridge replacement, bridge rehabilitation and repair of damaged bridges.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for highly complex transportation projects.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
