WILLIAM MARSH RICE UNIVERSITY Wet Lab Research Assistant - 4452 in Houston, Texas
Position Summary
The Biobehavioral Mechanisms Explaining Disparities (BMED) lab is seeking to hire an entry level research assistant with a specific interest in immunology and/or cellular biology to be responsible for assisting in receiving, processing, storing, and analyzing immunological biomarkers. In the BMED Wet Lab we specifically focus on analysis of cytokines and markers of cellular energy in leukocytes from peripheral blood. The research assistant will accept instruction from a Laboratory Manager, and the lab's principal investigators to determine priorities. This is a one-year term limited position with the possibility of extension based upon need and available funding.
*Non-Exempt (hourly) positions under FLSA are eligible for overtime.
Minimum Requirements
- HS diploma or equivalent
Skills:
- Ability to learn quickly
- Detail oriented and good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, meet deadlines, analytical and organization skills
Preferences:
- Bachelor's degree or working on a Bachelor's degree
- Related wet laboratory and/or research experience
- Successfully completed one or more post-secondary courses with a laboratory requirement
- Experience conducting standard wet laboratory procedures
- Experience handling biological specimens
Essential Functions
- Receiving, labeling, and safely storing blood samples to be tested in accordance with all safety and other requirements to ensure the safety of personnel and integrity of the sample
- Analyzing blood samples to obtain health biomarker data
- Cleaning and maintaining lab equipment
- Maintaining daily work logs
- Interacts and takes direction from lab manager and to ensure adequate preparation and supplies are available for use
