The Mechanical Engineer - Level I plays a critical role in designing movable structures for SIT including movable doors, bridges, ramps, winches, steering systems, and many other systems for marine, military and aerospace applications. You will be accountable for researching, planning, and preparing accurate and efficient detailed drawings of parts and assemblies using CAD and Solidworks to communicate engineering ideas, designs, and information.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Hydraulic System Design: collaborate with the engineering team to design and develop hydraulic systems and components. Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and schematics for hydraulic systems.

  • Engineering Support: Collaborate closely with our esteemed engineering team to provide invaluable support in various aspects of the design and development process. This involves contributing to drawings, calculations, sizing, and specifications, enhancing the overall project development process.

  • System Analysis and Testing: Perform hydraulic system analysis, including pressure, flow, and thermal calculations. Conduct tests and simulations to ensure the reliability and performance of hydraulic systems. Troubleshoot and diagnose hydraulic system issues, proposing effective solutions.

  • Drawing Interpretation: Analyze and interpret a variety of sources, including sketches, customer drawings, visual inspections, and verbal input from engineers or designers.

  • Technical Research: Conduct thorough research, utilizing technical guides and references, to acquire information about necessary components for each system.

  • Direct and coordinate fabrication and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.

  • Commissioning: Lead and oversee the commissioning phase of projects, ensuring all systems and components are thoroughly tested and verified for functionality. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, contractors, and stakeholders, to coordinate commissioning activities.

  • Support and participate in the organization’s continual improvement program to conform to ISO 9001.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited university), or equivalent technical degree with equivalent experience.

  • Fluid Power Specialist Certification a plus.

Experience

  • Zero (0) to two (2) years of relevant engineering experience. Previous experience in the fluid power industry is a benefit.

  • Familiarity with working in an ISO 9001 certified environment a plus.

Knowledge and Skills

  • SolidWorks and CAD Proficiency: Proficiency in SolidWorks and CAD to create layouts and intricate drawings, ensuring exceptional precision and adherence to our rigorous design standards. Mastery of CAD and SolidWorks tools is essential for producing detailed mechanical drawings and models.

  • Software Expertise: Proficiency in industry-standard software tools, including AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.

  • Hydraulic System Design: Demonstrated expertise in designing and engineering hydraulic systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency. Proficient in component selection, including pumps, valves, actuators, and fluid reservoirs.

  • Engineering Capability: Competently perform engineering design calculations, showcasing your aptitude for accurate and effective engineering solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills – orally & written – with both internal stakeholders (sales, technicians) and external stakeholders (manufacturer partners & customers)

  • Results-oriented and "hands-on" approach. Possess strong organization skills, strong customer focus and orientation.
