IBM Storage System Test and Bringup Engineer in Houston, Texas
Introduction
This role is for the IBM Infrastructure, Hardware Organization Development team. The Hardware Organization is distributed worldwide with sites among other places like Tel Aviv Israel, Houston US, and Hursley UK. The current role is in Houston.
The candidate will use their knowledge of hardware and firmware design, system operation, together with functional specifications and high-level design documents, to support the IBM Architect, Engineering and vendor design team, to define and run verification tests, and to debug hardware issues on IBM Storage System products and peripherals.
This role involves hardware design reviews, hardware bring-up and verification activities in multiple disciplines, such as: storage media (SSD, HHD and DRAM) microelectronic (x86 CPUs, PCIe and I2C busses), firmware (BIOS, BMC, CPLD, TPM), electrical (PSU, BBU), and mechanical engineering.
Using test equipment, the team bring-up and test the hardware functionality and, when needed, debug hardware and firmware faults and recommend solutions. The team follow development and test methodology including defect ticketing systems.
The team also collaborate closely with the rest of the development Organizations who require this hardware to deliver their Storage Solutions to IBM customers and ensure the software interfaces to enclosure management systems function correctly.
The team is also responsible for the ongoing hardware support for Storage Products after a launch. This involves the diagnosis of suspected hardware or firmware issues, or the Root Cause Analysis of confirmed failures in development and at customer sites.
Your role and responsibilities
Failure Analysis of Storage Platforms and subcomponents.
Bring up and Install of New Storage Systems.
Test of new Storage Platforms and sub components.
Install and upgrade of embedded code and system code.
Design verification of new storage systems.
Field and customer issue recreation and debug
Required technical and professional expertise
Experienced with Linux and other OS.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience with hardware such as: CPUs, Switches, PCIe and I2C busses
Experience of Firmware operation on programmable devices, such as:, BIOS, BMC, CPLD, TPM), electrical (PSU, BBU)
Preferred technical and professional experience
