MD Anderson Cancer Center Sr Architect - Major Capital Healthcare or Research Projects in Houston, Texas

The ideal candidate is experienced in the processes of developing major capital healthcare or research projects, including being sensitive to design and coordinating all technical aspects of a project. The candidate is comfortable applying current codes, and proficient in working with user groups, contractors and consultants. The candidate has experience with master planning and site development.

SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Senior Architect position in Facilities Planning, Design and Construction is to provide a full range of professional architectural services related to remodeling, renovation, new construction, and equipment replacement projects. The Senior Architect is responsible for architectural design, project planning and programming, preparation of plans and specifications for projects according to institutional standards, as well as, construction administration services to determine whether construction meets the design intent. The Senior Architect is responsible for day-to-day coordination of all project design and production disciplines including engineers, interior designers, and draftsman.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Major Project Design Support

Coordinates design continuity throughout the institution. Acts as FPDC project liaison with external consultants. Reviews architectural designs and plans for alignment with scope and Owner Design Guidelines. Reviews, assesses and provides comments on project design submissions, including plans, details, specifications and other deliverables prepared by consultants. Observes the progress of projects during construction to determine compliance with construction documents. Communicates design issues and outcomes addressed during the implementation of major projects with impact to Owner Design Guidelines and standards.

Space Studies/Site Planning

Assists with Space Studies and Site Planning, including Department or Division Strategic/Facilities Planning and general space studies as requested. Provides architectural conceptual design services including, test-fits, reports and field measurements. Ensures compliance with codes and regulatory requirements, including FGI and NFPA.

Standards/Compliance/Document Management

Design Standards Coordination and Compliance including drawing/submittal reviews and variance submissions. Document Management including project reports, space reports, meeting minutes, project file organization and regulatory related reporting. Leads in the creation, refinement, and utilization of standard templates.

Other Duties As Assigned

Required: Bachelor's degree in Architecture. Six years of architectural experience to include three years of healthcare or research design experience. A thorough knowledge of the principles, methods and practices involved in the design, remodeling, operation and maintenance of buildings and utilities systems is required. Must obtain an Architect license issued by the State of Texas within 180 days of date of entry into job.

Preferred: Master's Level Degree. Eight years experience in relevant architectural design with a focus in healthcare, academic, and \ or research facilities. Certified Construction Specifier (C.C.S.), Construction Specification Institute.
