Robert Half Senior Cost Accountant in Houston, Texas

Description We are looking for a Senior Cost Accountant to join our team based in Houston, Texas. This role will involve conducting product costing, manufacturing analysis, and inventory valuation. You will be expected to support the Controller with validating all financial transactions in accordance with GAAP, company policy, and internal controls framework.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct Cost Accounting journal entries for month-end close activities.

• Validate cost of goods sold and other manufacturing costs.

• Review financial statements for inaccuracies and inconsistencies.

• Generate key balance sheet account reconciliations monthly.

• Prepare variance analysis related to manufacturing costs, gross margins, inventory, and expenses.

• Review labor and overhead costs to update standards, as needed. Compare standard costs to actual production costs.

• Provide management with various monthly reports, such as comparing price and profitability by product line and/or by plant.

• Prepare financial reporting for internal and corporate customers.

• Review and validate cycle counting and physical inventories at various U.S. plant locations.

• Prepare and review FIFO, LCM, E& O calculations.

• Compile cost inputs for monthly forecasts and annual plan.

• Generate inventory rollforwards based on forecasted or planned estimates.

• Estimate new and proposed product costs using FIFO.

• Occasionally test and review of internal or key controls.

• Complete audit schedules required by external and internal auditors. Requirements • Possession of a Bachelors or Honours Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• At least 2 years of experience in cost accounting

• Demonstrated knowledge of Manufacturing Cost Accounting

• Proficiency in Standard Cost Accounting

• Experience with Inventory Valuation and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)

• Understanding of FIFO (First In, First Out) principles

• Experience conducting Annual Inventory and Annual Physical Inventory

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation.
