Job Summary:

Project Accounting Manager will be responsible for effective oversight and execution of all Finance activities associated with an upcoming Project. This position will receive day to day direction from the Project Controls Manager and/or Project Manager and functional guidance from the Energy Financial Services Manager. This position will be based in Houston,Texas.

Duties will include having a full understanding of the financial requirements of the client contract and taking a lead role in setting up the accounting procedures and work processes necessary to support project’s activities as well as implementation of appropriate administrative controls to ensure compliance with internal (Bechtel) and external (GAAP/client) requirements. Candidate will be responsible for managing accounting operations which may include direct hire payroll, accounts payable, client billing, tax reporting, treasury coordination, audit coordination, and other duties as assigned. #LI-HB1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Establish financial and administrative controls for the Project in accordance with Bechtel policies and procedures and client’s requirements.

  • Undertake the responsibility for Project books of accounts, including general ledger, subsidiary ledgers, and detailed job cost and commitment ledgers.

  • Provide support to the corporate reporting requirements for the Project books and assist with various reporting requirements for the Project.

  • Manage direct-hire timekeeping process and coordinate with BBS to process payroll.

  • Ensures monthly billings are performed in accordance with contract terms for the Project.

  • Manages the accounts receivable and payables to ensure prompt payments are made and received.

  • Monitors status of employee receivables as they pertain to the project and works with project management in ensuring all accounts are current.

  • Provides analysis of financial information, estimates of costs, and preparation of forecasts and ad-hoc management reporting as required by Project and GBU Management.

  • Responds to our client's inquiries and audits relative to finance-related matters and works with client representatives to interpret provisions of contracts as it relates to accounting.

  • Provides support in administration of the prime contract.

  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with a team and providing support as needed.

  • Other duties, as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires bachelor's or master's degree (or international equivalent) and 13-15 years of relevant experience or 17-19 years of relevant work experience

Required Knowledge and Skills:

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of organizational structure, policies and procedures.

  • Experience and proficiency in basic accounting functions such as payroll, payables, receivables, billing and financial accounting. Skill in analyzing and problem-solving techniques as applied to accounting.

  • Excellent skills in working with and communicating effectively orally and in writing with internal and external personnel.

  • Very proficient in computer applications and common software products. Able to develop complex spreadsheets with complex formulas, macros and ad hoc report writing.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting and financial issues including an understanding of generally accepted accounting principles, practices, and techniques.

  • Good Interpersonal skills and ability to effectively function in a matrix organization and manage complex high-volume activities.

  • Requires working knowledge of computer systems operations as applied to accounting functions at larger projects.

  • Ability to analyze financial data, provide early recognition of potential problems and provide effective and innovative thought processes in handling complex financial issues/problems.

  • Experience in supervisory activities such as distribution and control of work, performance evaluation, coaching, interviewing, and training and development of personnel

  • Experience and proficiency in basic accounting functions such as payroll, payables, receivables, billing, and financial accounting. Skill in analyzing and problem-solving techniques as applied to accounting.
