Emerson Principal Mechanical Engineer in Houston, Texas

Emerson is an industry leader in valve automation and is developing the next generation of intelligent actuators . To accomplish this, we have built a New Product Development (NPD) team with the sole focus of bringing this vision to life.

We are currently seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join this team! The individual selected for this role will work be part of a Houston-based group of principal engineers that work closely with our global engineering team as well as cross-functional leaders to conceptualize, develop, test, and launch new products.

Additionally, you will work closely with other cross-disciplinary principal engineers to bring together mechanical, electrical, software, and firmware into a market-leading portfolio of products for the future.

In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Take the lead role for overall mechanical design efforts from conceptualization to design, prototyping, testing, qualification, ramp up, and launch.

  • Achieve project requirements including technical architecture, quality, human-centered design criteria, design-for-manufacturability, timelines, cost, and other objectives.

  • Coordinate technical activities across the global mechanical engineering team and collaborate closely with peers leading electronics, firmware, and software efforts.

  • Translate user and market requirements into technical designs, including evaluating complex alternatives while managing product cost

    Who You Are:

You are a technical professional and mechanical expert who enjoys working on complex, open-ended problems and driving toward a coherent vision for a product. You embrace ambiguity when needed and can pick out important factors that will drive major decisions. You evaluate and compare technologies and concepts and can clearly articulate tradeoffs between them. You enjoy collaborating with a local team to develop high-level concepts but are able to articulate these ideas to a global team to finish out detailed designs.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or closely related study.

  • 5+ years of electromechanical-based product engineering.

Preferred Qualifications that Set You Apart:

  • Technical master’s degree preferred.

  • Experience in New Product Development and early-stage prototyping

  • Experience in industrial equipment/devices, motor control, and industrial networking preferred.
