About George R. Brown School of Engineering and Computing
The George R. Brown School of Engineering and Computing ranks among the top 20 undergraduate engineering programs (US News and World Report) and is strongly committed to nurturing the aspirations of faculty, staff, and students in an inclusive environment.
We seek greater representation of women, minorities, people with disabilities, and veterans in disciplines in which they have historically been underrepresented; to attract international students from a wider range of countries and backgrounds; to accelerate progress in building a faculty and staff who are diverse in background and thought, and we support an inclusive environment that fosters interaction and understanding within our diverse community.
Position Summary
The Zhu Lab in the department of Materials Science and NanoEngineering has an open Postdoctoral Associate position. The Postdoc will focus on using advanced terahertz spectroscopy and microscopy techniques to explore new properties emerging from the interaction of various excitations in quantum materials. This research builds on the group's established methods for studying chiral phonon dynamics. The candidate will also have the opportunity to mentor graduate students and contribute to developing research plans.
Dr. Zhu and his Emerging Quantum and Ultrafast Activity Laboratory (EQUAL) engineer materials at the atomic level with light. He is interested in the interplay among the lattice structures, electrons and electromagnetic waves to create quantum behavior that typically only exist in extreme conditions with natural compounds. These artificial materials potentially serve in robust information technology and sensitive detectors beyond the classical limit. https://zhugroup.rice.edu/
