JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES JOB FUNCTIONS

Assists with the oversight of operations and personnel in the surgical pathology and autopsy laboratories.

Directs workflow issues relative to the collection of patient tissue.

Directs autopsy technical personnel and functions as prosecutor for postmortem examinations.

Performs gross description and dissection of tissue removal at surgery.

Reviews and summarizes relevant patient information and verifies proper documentation for tissue use in research or for postmortem examinations.

Maintains patient and procedure data relative to the workload and quality assurance of section operations.

Coordinates training of Surgical Pathology fellows, residents and students relative to tissue grossing techniques.

Collaborates with others to develop patient data and report templates.

Ensures compliance with accrediting agencies for pathology laboratory activities, including documentation of competency testing, documentation of quality improvement activities and development of procedure manuals.

Graduation from accredited Pathologist Assistant Program or Bachelor's degree in biological or allied health sciences. No experience required if graduated from an accredited Pathology Assistant Program. With a Bachelor's degree, three years of experience performing gross examination and evaluation of human surgical and/or autopsy specimens is required.
