Shape Technologies Group Machinist in Houston, Texas

Description

General Purpose:

Performs complex machining operations in support of manufacturing activities from a variety of rough sketches or drawings that serve as input. Work is completed under direction and/or guidance of the department Lead.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working from drawings and engineering instructions, build to specification parts, tools or fixtures for development, model shop or prototype projects.

  • Set up and operate equipment such as lathes, drills, screw and milling machines.

  • Executes assignments using manual and CNC mills and lathes and other available tooling.

  • Determine and prepare and jigs or special attachments needed.

  • Read and interpret blueprints or drawings necessary to complete assignments. Prepare own layouts.

  • Use micrometers, vernier calipers and other precision measuring tools to ensure in-process or that finished product matches specified tolerances.

  • Perform maintenance and cleanup of work area.

  • Perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions using precision measuring tools.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Solid working knowledge of shop mathematics.

  • Intermediate level of analytical ability where problems are complex.

  • Good verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to operate various tools and equipment.

  • Ability to work independently and function effectively in a team environment.

  • Intermediate level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.

  • Swiss Screw Machine experience desirable.

Supervisory Responsibility:

None.

Education and/or Training:

  • High school diploma or equivalent training.

  • Minimum of two (2) years machine operations experience and/or enrollment and completion of apprentice program.

  • Preference given to candidates with experience on screw machines.
