Robert Half Legal Assistant in Houston, Texas

Description We are offering a contract for a Legal Assistant role in the non-profit sector, located in Houston, Texas. As a Legal Assistant, you will be primarily responsible for providing legal advocacy, maintaining accurate records, and serving as a liaison between various community partners. You will also be tasked with providing information, referrals, and access to community resources to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary point of contact for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, providing them with crucial legal advocacy services.

• Use your skills in Aderant, Adobe Acrobat, Automated City Register Information System (ACRIS), Case Management Software, CompuLaw, and other related tools to efficiently manage cases and maintain accurate records.

• Engage in active communication and maintain strong client relations to ensure the needs of vulnerable populations are met.

• Collaborate with legal aid organizations, law enforcement, and prosecutors, acting as the liaison for clients participating in the civil, criminal, and other justice systems.

• Utilize your skills in billing functions and calendar management to ensure smooth operation of the legal department.

• Provide community outreach and education to victims of domestic violence, ensuring they are well-informed and supported.

• Provide assistance with the Crime Victim Compensation Program and help with VINE (victim notification system).

• Handle claim administration tasks, ensuring all necessary paperwork and legal documents are accurately completed and processed in a timely manner.

• Use your bilingual skills in English and Spanish to read, speak, and write in both languages fluently, enabling you to cater to a wider range of clients. Requirements • Proficiency in Aderant software for effective case management

• Expertise in Adobe Acrobat for document creation and editing

• Familiarity with Automated City Register Information System (ACRIS) for managing property records

• Proficient in using Case Management Software for tracking and recording case details

• Skilled in CompuLaw for managing deadlines and reducing malpractice risk

• Ability to handle Billing Functions efficiently to ensure timely payments

• Expertise in Calendar Management for scheduling appointments, deadlines, and meetings

• Experience in Claim Administration for handling and processing legal claims

• Strong Client Relations skills for maintaining productive relationships with clients

• Excellent Communication skills for clear and effective interaction with clients and team members
