Business Counsel (F/M/X)

About the role

  • Our legal team, composed of four people in the US, is integrated in the General Counsel department and focuses on providing excellent legal support and counseling in collaboration with the Senior Legal Counsel for North America (NA).

  • As a Business Counsel, you will work on general legal regulatory topics, reviewing and negotiating various contracts and corporate governance to support the Senior Legal Counsel for NA. You will get the opportunity to contribute to the key stakeholders of Eco in NA and have a positive impact on the continued development and growth of Solvay.

  • You will be accountable for:

  • Ensure that all aspects of the company's legal representation are of the highest quality, including the day-to-day running of matters and overall strategy; collaborate with outside counsel where required on specific matters.

  • Provide advice and legal solutions to a wide range of environmental and regulatory issues related to the Chemical Industry; conduct legal research to analyze and interpret environmental laws and regulations; conduct projects and administrative and judicial procedures related to environmental and regulatory issues; carry out risk assessments and analyses of environmental and regulatory impact, helping to identify possible problems and define mitigation strategies; carry out, when necessary, field visits to all company units; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop integrated solutions and strategic approaches.

  • Identify potential litigation or regulatory risk and counsel the business to minimize exposure, supporting the company's global strategy for litigation and regulatory actions.

  • Counsel the Human Resources functions on issues like disciplines and terminations, help with employment contracts, interpretation of employment policies, and benefits related issues.

  • Reviewing and negotiating various agreements for procurement and GBUs and drafting the necessary documents to meet the needs of the teams.

About you

  • Law degree (JD) from a well-respected, accredited US university.

  • Deep knowledge and experience in US Law

  • Competencies:

  • Eight years (8) or more post-graduate experience overall as Legal Counsel in an international working environment in the US, including three years or more in the chemical industry, a manufacturing industry, or a similar or related industry.

  • Strong transactional experience in handling NA issues with a solid track record of corporate/commercial project experience in the US

  • Broad knowledge of US law, including health, safety & environmental law, US civil litigation management, labor and employment law, commercial and corporate law.

  • Behaviors:

  • Ability to balance legal requirements with business objectives and to render practical and creative legal solutions to aid business growth

  • Ability to take initiative, demonstrate decisiveness, and result orientation

  • Strong analytical and research skills

About the pay and benefits

  • Attractive and equitable pay for all: compensation is determined within a range to foster your development in the role. While the North American base pay reasonably expected for this role is $115,872 to $144,840, your salary may ultimately be higher or lower based on your skills and experience. Additionally, we provide a competitive total rewards package that includes a bonus and/or other incentives.
