Inventory Specialist

Description

The Inventory Specialist makes purchasing decisions such as the selection of vendors, validating prices, determining order quantities and materials, and tools needed for jobs. Internal communications with purchasing and receiving departments to coordinate department purchases; FMC personnel to ascertain requests and deliver goods. External communications for material and supply vendors to assist with the selection of vendors and process purchase requests for goods.

Duties:

  • Processes purchases for materials, parts and equipment. Verifies prices, prepares purchase requests, and coordinates requests with purchasing department for items over $1,000. Orders materials, parts, and equipment under $1,000 directly with suppliers.

  • Expedites materials/goods. Receives goods, stock inventory, notifies appropriate personnel of receipt, coordinates return of damaged goods and receipt of goods not delivered with vendor. Delivers supplies to workers locations.

  • Picks up supplies, materials, and equipment from vendors.

  • Inventories stock room and works with automated inventory system; keeps stockroom neat and orderly.

  • Assists with entering purchase requests and receiving reports into spreadsheet, and files completed purchase requests. Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  1. High School Diploma or GED.

  2. At least one year of shipping/receiving, materials handling, warehousing, and/or related experience.

  3. Working knowledge of construction materials and equipment.

  4. Knowledge of general purchasing procedures; preferably with State of Texas.

  5. Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office software.

  6. Good oral and written communication skills to interact with vendors, purchasing and departmental personnel.

  7. Good organization skills to expedite requests and maintain inventory.

  8. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. to stock materials and maintain stock room.

  9. Ability to prioritize work, meet scheduling deadlines, and perform under some stress.

  10. Ability to operate forklift; training available.
