DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This individual will supervise employees and outside contractors in the day-to-day operations of the In-house Electrical and HVAC Sections. Administer departmental policy and procedures relative to operational and personnel activities. Coordinate maintenance and installation activities with outside contractors and City Departments. Review and recommend appropriate building/site designs, construction plan, security procedures and provides management with timely cost estimates for various projects. Administer departmental budget, insuring compliance, and supervises the preparation of annual reports, budget estimates and operational reports. Coordinate community activities and represents the Department at related meetings and/or conferences. Coordinate community feedback and recommends appropriate solutions. Advise immediate management of problems and recommended solutions. Represent the department by giving both written and oral presentations to department heads and public. Perform additional assignments as required. May be required to work after hours to monitor and manage emergency issues and/or special projects.

This position is designated among essential personnel under the City of Houston Emergency Management policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position occasionally requires stooping or bending and light lifting (up to 20 pounds) may be required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Requires a high school diploma or GED certificate. Requires successful completion of an apprentice electrician program approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training or the equivalent as recognized by the Electrical Safety and Licensing Advisory Board.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Seven years of journey-level electrician experience, including two years of supervisory experience are required.

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering may be substituted for two years of the experience requirement.

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

Must have a valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

Requires a valid State of Texas Master Electrician License if the position is responsible for obtaining and retracting electrical permits.

PREFERENCES

Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
