Go to CAPPS Recruit to Sign In https://capps.taleo.net/careersection/ex/jobsearch.ftl?lang=en GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Perform complex (journey-level) professional and technical work analyzing and improving various Departmental components and assisting technicians with highly complex automated systems in Wide Area Networks (WANs), Local Area Networks (LAN), Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN), and in car CAD systems. Work involves supporting disaster recovery and response, mobile command support and response, server maintenance. Provide support to multiple operating systems, software, and Vehicle Mobile Networking Wireless technology. May train others. Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The following Military Occupational Specialty codes are generally applicable to this position. Analyze and determine feasibility of applying complex network systems; document and recommend systems incorporated in WAN, MAN, LAN or host-integrated configurations to provide the most cost-effective solutions for those components business areas. 2. Provide maintenance support to Vehicle Wireless Mobile Network technology. Support the configuration, installation, and updates needed to maintain In Car software applications developed for communications and Texas Highway Patrol. 3. Train and assist IT staff in the use of complex applications and procedures. 4. Receive, install, identify, test, and document receipt and configurations of hardware, network, and software products in field offices, and assist others in large installations. 5. Troubleshoot and assist with the maintenance of virtual hardware, recorders, SQL servers, monitors, printers, Ethernet switches, routers, hubs, telephony equipment, and other needed peripherals; diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve operating problems. 6. Develop training modules and materials, and present individual and/or group training sessions to users. 7. Maintain current knowledge of standards and procedures for PC utilization to keep users informed of factors applicable to their operations. 8. Audit systems for unlicensed software. 9. Conduct cost analysis and prepare purchase memoranda and budget recommendations relating to Department hardware and software operations. 10. Respond to District Disaster Centers, State Operation Centers, and disaster events as needed. 11. Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies. 12. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications: GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS: Education Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Computer Science, Data Processing, or a related field is required. Experience Minimum of two (2) years experience involving the support o hardware and software configurations in a networked environment, including work experience in resolution for wireless networking management technology is preferred. Substitution Note: Additional work experience of the type described or other related education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Licensure and/or Certification Must possess a valid driver license from state of residence. TLETS certification with TCIC/TLETS mobile, are required certifications every two (2) years. Regulatory knowledge Working knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly assimilate information related to TXDPS, State and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures. Interpersonal Skills Must demonstrate an ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy and an ability to establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers. Organizational and Prioritization Skills Must be organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment; able to meet multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, timeliness or professionalism. Presentation/Communication Skills Must be able to construct and deliver clear, concise, and professional presentations to a variety of audiences and/or individuals. Research and Comprehension Must demonstrate ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information, and be able to utilize and/or present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner. Analytical Reasoning/Attention to Detail Must demonstrate an ability to examine data/information, discern variations/similarities, and be able identify trends, relationships and causal factors, as well as grasp issues, draw accurate conclusions, and solve problems. Technology (computers/hardware/software/operating systems) Preferred knowledge of hardware and software designed for WAN connectivity and of WAN, LAN and MAN configurations and communications requirements; installation and configuration of hardware devices utilized in interconnectivity of LANs and networks, personal computer and peripheral devices; mobile wireless networking technology; disaster recovery processes; business practices and procedures involving processing, retention and manipulation of large volumes of data and of the capabilities and limitations of personal computers; operating characteristics and procedures of operating systems (DOS, UNIX, OS/2, Windows); and of hardware and software diagnostic and corrective tools for use on personal computers and LAN servers. Skilled in a broad understanding of cloud technology to include maintaining secure virtual environments, migrate information and services into the cloud, managing cloud environments in accordance with department security guideline, and supporting cloud-based applications. Confidentiality and Protected Information Must demonstrate an ability to responsibly handle sensitive and confidential information and situations, and adhere to applicable laws/statutes/policies related to access, maintenance and dissemination of information. Safety Must be able to work in safe manner at all times, avoiding shortcuts that have potential adverse results/risks, and must be able to comply with safety standards and best practices. Travel and/or Schedule Availability for after-hour, weekend, on-call and shift work is required in order to provide twenty-four (24) hour support to vehicle mobile networks.
