U-Haul Customer Service Representative in Houston, Texas

Are you a people person? Do you love helping others? U-Haul is in search of friendly, motivated people for the position of U-Box warehouse worker. As a U-Box warehouse worker, you will work as part of a supportive team to be the face of U-Haul company’s exceptional service and ensuring that customers get all the help they need on their journeys by inspecting and maintaining all U-boxes and U-box related equipment. As well as assisting customers, using up-to-date technology to dispatch and return equipment. This position offers on-the-job training.

This job requires the following: The ability to work solely by yourself at times, constant fork-lift usage, stacking/unstacking of U-boxes 4 high, constant monitoring of the U-box to do list, loading and unloading 18 wheelers multiple times per day, loading and unloading UB and DB trailers, dispatching and receiving shipped U-boxes, repairing U-boxes using hand and electric tools and U-box parts, replacing U-box skirts and more. The warehouse is not airconditioned and does get warm during the summer. This job gets very busy at times and requires thinking outside of box at times. The candidate must also complete some U-Haul university courses which teach about U-Haul, our products, U-Boxes and other facets of the job. Fork-lift experience is a big plus. We will also train you.

This is a FULLTIME job which includes benefits after 90 days of continued service. The candidate must be dependable, show professionalism with customers at all times, be a clear communicator, have the ability to think and work on their feet for extended periods of time and be a STRONG self-starter. Folding furniture pads is also a daily task to be completed.

Work days and hours: Tuesday thru Saturday, 8am to 5pm with a 1-hour lunch.

U-Box warehouse worker will do the following below, and also some things not listed below.:

  • Assist customers inside and outside a U-Haul center with U-Haul products and services.

  • Use smartphone-based U-Scan technology to manage rentals and inventory.

  • Move and hook up U-Haul trucks and trailers.

  • Clean and inspect equipment on the lot including checking fluid levels.

  • Answer questions and educate customers regarding products and services.

  • Prepare rental invoices and accept equipment returned from rental.

  • Fill propane (certification offered through U-Haul upon employment)

  • Drive a forklift (certification offered through U-Haul upon employment)

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Participate in ongoing continuous U-Haul education through U-Haul University.

U-Box warehouse worker minimum qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain a good driving record

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Reliable transportation to and from work

  • The ability to leave personal issues at home and focus on work only, when here at the job

  • Must be Non-Nicotine user

Work Environment:

The work involves moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts or machines, fumes or irritant chemicals. The warehouse gets warm during the summer months. May be required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, goggles, gloves or shields.

Physical Demands:

The work requires regular physical exertion such as long periods of remaining stationary, moving around indoors and outdoors, positioning oneself to reach objects at varying heights and moving equipment weighing a minimum of 50 lbs. assisted or unassisted. Strapping down U-boxes with hand ratchet straps, changing out the propane tank on the fork-lift, hooking-up and un-hooking trailers to customer vehicles. Using electric and hand tools to complete U-box repairs as needed and or instructed. Ability to be on the forklift for long periods of time, while also getting on and off the fork-lift multiple times per day.
