Your Opportunity

We are seeking a detail-oriented Commissioning Technician with 0-3 years of experience in building commissioning for public and private sector clients. This role places you at the forefront of ensuring building systems perform efficiently, sustainably, and reliably.

You will be working closely with Commissioning Agents located throughout the region and will contribute to projects of all sizes, from complex commercial fit-outs to billion-dollar developments, working alongside a forward-thinking team that’s passionate about redefining industry standards.

This position is based out of one of our major offices (Houston, Dallas, Austin).

Your Key Responsibilities

Project Support:

  • Assist in the development of comprehensive Commissioning (Cx) plans and Cx specifications.

  • Assist in Cx activities, including kick-off meetings, progress updates, and on-site testing coordination.

Execution and Documentation:

  • Assist with the development of Owner Project Requirements (OPR).

  • Review design documents and construction submittals to ensure alignment with OPR.

  • Conduct field inspections, functional performance testing, and system verifications for mechanical, electrical, and automation systems.

  • Create detailed reports summarizing deficiencies, recommendations, and solutions.

Energy and Sustainability:

  • Support energy efficiency initiatives, including ASHRAE Level 1, 2, and 3 energy audits.

  • Contribute to projects pursuing certifications like LEED, WELL, and Energy Star.

Collaboration and Continuous Improvement:

  • Collaborate with Stantec’s Commissioning Teams across the United States as well as the wider North American Commissioning Teams to implement industry-leading commissioning processes.

  • Participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives to advance company standards.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

Technical Proficiency:

  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, and building control systems.

  • Experience using software such as Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam.

  • Experience using CxAlloy is a plus.

Emotional Intelligence Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities, with attention to detail.

  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with self-motivation to excel.

Education and Experience

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or Building Science with 0-4 years of commissioning experience.

Alternative Paths:

  • Associate, Technical, or Vocational degree with 2-7 years of commissioning experience.

  • 4-9 years of relevant experience in commissioning, testing, and balancing, or building automation trades may be substituted for Preferred education and experience listed above.

  • Certification/Training: National Commissioning Certification - Associate Commissioning Provider (ACP) or ability and willingness to achieve certification within one year.
