The Department of Computational Applied Mathematics and Operations Research (CMOR) at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position with a start date of July 1, 2025. The candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computational applied mathematics and operations research.

  • Conduct high-quality research in operations research and related fields. Related fields include the following: analysis of online algorithms, approximation algorithms, and competitive analysis via mathematical programming; sequential resource allocation models in cloud computing and energy; and the intersection of stochastic control, Markov decision processes, and discrete optimization.

  • Publish high-quality papers in top journals in the related field and present research results at national and international conferences.

  • Mentor and advise graduate and undergraduate students and postdoctoral researchers, to include guiding and supervising their research.

  • Provide service to the department, university, profession, and community.

  • Travel domestically or internationally to present research results up to 10% of time.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Operations Research, Algorithms, Combinatorics and Optimization (ACO), Computational Applied Mathematics or related quantitative discipline by November 1 of the year employment commences and have two (2) years of experience as a graduate assistant or research assistant in mathematics or computing.

Special Skills Required: Must have experience with Algorithms, MATLAB; NetworkX; Numpy; identifying and resolving optimization problems arising in cloud computing.
