Emerson Application Engineer II (AutoCAD & Motor Control Design) in Houston, Texas

If you are an Application Engineering professional looking for an opportunity to grow, Emerson has an opening for you! Based in our Houston, TX manufacturing facility reporting to the Engineer Manager you will produce all information required for producing custom application engineered products for customer orders and quotes. You will also provide technical support for daily jobs, switch racks and projects.

IN THIS ROLE, YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL BE:

  • Learn specifications and applications of all catalogued products (i.e. motor starters, panelboards, and custom control stations)

  • Work with designers, engineers, and supervisors to produce the required drawings and documentation for customer orders or quotes

  • Provide product selection support to the quotations group, sales group and/or customers

  • Apply detailed understanding of catalog applications and implications of electrical modifications

  • Provide support to manufacturing department for application engineering designs

  • Provide training and electrical support to team members

  • Create drawings and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD 2D

  • Utilize Oracle for Bill of Material (BOM) creation and job management

  • Verify and validate drawings and BOMs, ensuring they meet applicable standards and requirements under the National Electrical Code

  • Send drawings for approval, release order package to production, and produce NMRs

  • Approve engineering deviations for customer orders and/or standard designs

  • Address field issues and customer inquiries to resolve technical matters promptly

  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Work overtime as required

WHO YOU ARE: You readily learn and adopt new technologies. You seek ways to improve processes, from small tweaks to complete reengineering. You create teamwork allowing others across the organization to achieve shared objectives.

FOR THIS ROLE, YOU WILL NEED:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or Electrical Engineering Technology Degree

  • Effective leadership and communication skills: verbal and written (English)

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint),

  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2D

  • 2+ years’ experience in motor control design, panel building, and switchrack design concepts

  • Familiarity with hazardous location standards (NEC/CEC/IEC/ATEX)

  • Technical knowledge of raceway fill calculations per the National Electrical Code, current transformer sizing, and space heater sizing

  • Knowledge of electrical troubleshooting

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS THAT SET YOU APART:

  • Hands on electrical testing

  • Knowledge of Oracle BOM
