Position Overview:

Perform a variety of duties associated with production of firearm components. These duties may be manual or machine oriented.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performing routine production work (12-hour shifts) on traditional or CNC type equipment in such areas as:

  • Milling

  • Drilling

  • Cutoff

  • Broaching

  • Shaping

  • Filing

  • Media-Blasting

  • Performing "predictable" inspections such as "Go/No-Go gauging

  • Safely handling and transporting materials, parts, finished goods, supplies, tooling, etc., in and out of departments

  • Performing machine loading and assembly tasks

  • Keeping work areas and equipment clean, safe and orderly. Including:

  • Emptying and removing chips

  • Maintaining a segregated metal scrap

  • Performing and inspecting for Preventive Maintenance

  • If certified, operating forklift

  • Hand counting, sorting and boxing parts

  • Use of hand tools

  • Performing other miscellaneous duties and related functions as directed by supervisor

  • Following all prescribed methods and procedures

  • Must be flexible with regard to work assignments, and will be directed to work wherever needed in order to support organizational goals

  • Be actively involved and willing to complete all training requirements to advance skills and proficiencies.

Education and Experience:

  • High School/GED, prior experience working in a manufacturing environment

  • Appropriate training and experience to fulfill all requirements of work areas described above

Competencies and Skills:

  • Must be able to read, write and interpret the English language

  • Basic computer skills preferred

Physical Demands:

  • 12 hour shifts on a rotating 2 week schedule.

  • Continuous: standing, walking, lifting, bending, pushing/pulling, and reaching

  • Occasional: kneeling, sitting, squatting, overhead work, fine and gross upper body motor movement

  • Maximum lift: to 30 pounds and assisted lifting

  • Occasional lifting: 0 to 30 pounds

Work Environment and Personal Protective Equipment:

Within the Smith & Wesson manufacturing facility, employees may be exposed to manufacturing noise, airborne liquid chemicals, fine particulate dust, ambient temperatures, and industrial lighting. Work environment is similar to most manufacturing operations. May be exposed to excessive noise, temperatures, hazards associated with working around moving machinery, work in confined quarters, exposure to vibrations and shop lighting, continuous exposure to hot temperatures, may be humid, odors, dust, continuous exposure to mechanical hazards, and occasional exposure to chemical hazards.

The following Personal Protective Equipment is required:

  • Safety glasses with side shields and hearing protection required when on manufacturing floor

The use of additional personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when a job task(s) is being completed in or around your assigned department or in another department, this includes safety eyewear, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
