JOB SUMMARY

Performs skilled work relative to the operation of specialized maintenance and construction equipment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

[]{#P6779}[]{#P71134}[]{#P81574}[]{#P91877}[]{#P102295}[]{#P112487}[]{#P122845}[]{#P133121}[]{#P143689}[]{#P154084}Drives, loads, and operates Dump Trucks, Tractor Trailer Truck, Asphalt Truck, and Boom Mower.

Drives and operates various heavy, medium, and light duty trucks; drives snowplows and salt/sand spreaders when needed.

Uses various hand-held tools and mechanized hand-held equipment.

Performs duties as assigned (concrete work, asphalt work, etc.).

Inspects equipment/truck and makes minor adjustments or refers to Fleet Services for service.

Serves as First responder in inclement weather. Remains flexible in work schedule and subject to after hour call outs.

Sets up and removes barricades, lane cones, and warning signs to channel traffic around work crews.

Drives truck when traveling to and from job sites.

Assists with clean-up operations at accidents, spills, and other emergencies.

Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.

Supervision Received:

Reports to Street/Urban Forestry Field Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised:

None.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent; and three (3) years in the operation of construction and maintenance equipment; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess a valid Arkansas CDL Class A and a clean driving record.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and use of specialized maintenance and construction equipment.

Working knowledge of the traffic laws and setting up work zones, ordinances, and regulations involved in equipment operation.

Working knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the operation of equipment.

Some knowledge of the geography of the city.

Skill in the operation of a variety of types of specialized maintenance and construction equipment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

Ability to perform strenuous work under varying weather conditions.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Frequently stands, walks, talks, and hears; occasionally sits; uses hands to handle objects; reaches with hands and arms; stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs, or balances; specific vision requirements include close, color, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus; occasionally required to lift up to 70 pounds; ability to taste and smell.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud; works in high precarious places and near moving mechanical parts; exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme heat and wet, humid conditions (non-weather), fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals; at risk of electrical shock and/or vibration.
