Weyerhaeuser Southern Environmental Affairs Manager in Hot Springs, Arkansas

Join Weyerhaeuser’s Environmental Affairs team to collaborate with a wide range of business support functions to help manage environmental regulatory risk and ensure compliance across Weyerhaeuser’s 7 million acres within 11 south east states. Our team cuts across the traditional organizational hierarchy to develop and implement a wide range of proactive strategies to ensure our forest management protects environmental and social values.

You work well with people who hold a wide range of personalities, disciplines, and personal perspectives. * * Primary Responsibilities for this Role ** In this role, you will: * Maintain and enhance relationships with regulatory agencies including United States Fish and Wildlife Service, Environmental Protection Agency, state forestry, wildlife, and water quality agencies, and tribal governments. * Serve as a liaison across Southern and Northern Timberlands, Government Affairs, Sustainability, Strategy and Technology, Legal, and other teams to ensure alignment on specific objectives * Represent Weyerhaeuser in select state and national trade associations to influence industry positions and strategy * Serve as a member of the Southern Timberlands Leadership team led by our SVP Southern Timberlands and includes all Region Managers and key support functions. * Supervise a team of Environmental Management System foresters who are responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental laws and company policies including maintaining our certification with the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. * Lead the implementation of Weyerhaeuser’s environmental risk management strategies including management and development of Habitat Conservation Plans and Conservation Benefit Agreements (Safe Harbor Agreements & Candidate Conservation Agreements with Assurances) * Interact with state and federal environmental regulatory agencies to directly influence the development of regulations impacting the timberlands business and interpret regulations * Partner directly with Weyerhaeuser’s Strategy and Technology team that includes a wide range of scientific disciplines to help prioritize in house and collaborative research with universities and other scientific organizations.

Experience:You have demonstrated experience in working for or with state or federal environmental agencies on natural resources issues. * *Technical skills: You have a foundation in natural resources and ideally forestry. You understand components of federal environmental regulatory programs, particularly the Clean Water Act and the Endangered Species Act. You are effective in negotiating and conflict resolution. You have experience in interpreting, developing and/or responding to environmental regulations. * *Curiosity: You can’t be an expert in everything, but you are curious and willing to learn. * *Communication: Clear and professional communication skills – both written and oral – are a must. We work with diverse skill sets and personalities and the ability to adjust your communication style to the audience is critical. * *Professionalism: We interact with people at all levels within the company as well as outsiders. We hold ourselves to a high standard of professionalism, both within our team and in our dealings with others. * *People Skills: You enjoy working collaboratively with all levels of an organization. You listen well, treat others with kindness and empathy, and are good at building relationships. Travel:This role will require 25%-35% travel. * * What We Offer Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $114,466 to $171,836 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 20% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our annual contribution equal to 5% of your base salary.

Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with paid vacation for up to 3 weeks to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 hours along with paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
