Job Summary: The Team Leader reports to the Supervisor of Specimen Processing and is responsible for leading the Specimen Processing Team. Key objectives of this position include: - Entering patient data into the NMS laboratory management information system (LIMS) accurately and promptly. - Creating and transferring sample aliquots to the testing departments in a timely manner. - Assisting with implementing practice changes and workflow improvements within the Specimen Processing Department.

Requirements: - High School Diploma with 6 years of lab experience, or - Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of lab experience

Major Duties and Responsibilities: - Lead the Specimen Processing Team in logging and aliquoting specimens according to NMS SOPs and documented practices. - Serve as backup to the Supervisor and assist with scheduling, IT issues, investigating non-conformities, and strategic planning. - Maintain compliance with accreditation requirements (e.g., CAP Checklist). - Assist with training staff when requested. - Act as a liaison between Specimen Processing, laboratory staff, and other departments. - Update and contribute to SOP creation, improvement, or revision. - Oversee projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Experience in implementing change within defined parameters and leading change. - Strong communication skills and a focus on providing quality service to clients. - Ability to build and maintain productive relationships with staff, internal customers, and other stakeholders. - Proficiency in reading, writing, and understanding English. - Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and business acumen. - Ability to handle technical and clinical inquiries or complaints. - Problem-solving skills, data collection, and drawing valid conclusions. - Ability to make effective presentations to management, public groups, and scientific forums. - Team player with the ability to present information and respond to questions from co-workers. - Ability to interpret and apply regulatory standards and adapt to changes. - Prioritize and utilize resources effectively. - Develop business relationships and foster cooperation. - Familiarity with law enforcement and forensic science disciplines of drug identification and/or forensic toxicology. - Awareness of personal strengths and limitations. - Ability to work independently and deliver accurate testimony in courts of law. - Proficiency in LIMS and MS Office applications. - Good written and verbal communication skills. - Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities. - High level of integrity.

Physical Demands: - Ability to hear. - Vision (with correction) including color, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. - Standing, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and fingers to manipulate computer keyboard, office equipment, objects, or tools. - Movement between work locations. - Sitting and standing for extended periods. - Lifting objects up to 20 lbs. - Ability to travel as needed for court testimony. - Exposure to intermittent or constant equipment sounds. - Exposure to fumes, odors, and dust. - Handling biological material and blood-borne pathogens.
