Amentum Laboratory Technician, Lead in Hopkinsville, Kentucky

The Laboratory Technician Lead is responsible for conducting laboratory tests on petroleum, oil and lubricant (POL) products to ensure their quality and safety for military use, including gathering samples, performing chemical analyses and adhering to strict safety protocols to maintain operational readiness.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Gather petroleum product samples from storage tanks, vehicles, and other sources for analysis

  • Perform physical and chemical tests on fuel samples using specialized equipment to evaluate quality parameters (viscosity, flash point, contaminant levels)

  • Interpret test results and identifying potential issues with fuel quality, making recommendations for corrective actions

  • Adhere strictly to safety procedures when handling volatile petroleum products, including proper use of personal protective equipment

  • Maintain accurate records of test results and ensuring compliance with military standards for fuel quality

  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment to ensure accurate test results.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

  • Basic chemistry and physics knowledge

  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and protocols

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data collection

  • Analytical skills to interpret test results

  • Strong safety awareness and practices

  • Capability to be certified as a Laboratory Technician IAW CFR 49 100-149

  • Must obtain Ammo-62 (Transportation of Hazardous Materials) certification within first 90 days of employment

  • Possess a valid driver’s license

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

  • May require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

  • May require travel

  • Applicant must have excellent customer service skills.

  • Maintain property accountability of all hand receipts items in Fuel Laboratory.
