Position Title - VP Operational Finance

Specific Job Summary

Looking for a strong hospitality finance professional to join our team as the Vice President of Operational Finance. This role will be responsible for the oversight of the operational finance teams for the entire portfolio of hotels and restaurants in the Hawaiian Islands, mainland US and Costa Rica. This position will work hand in hand with the operations team and other executives in the organization including contributing ideas that strategically guide the portfolio, while ensuring that accurate and timely financial information is produced to run the business.

Specific Expected Contributions

•Provide strategic leadership, functional guidance, and valuable insights to the operational finance team including all Directors of Finance, operations leaders, partners, owners, executive committees, and department heads for optimal business decisions for the hotels and the overall company.

•Develop and manage key relationships with the Directors of Finance, Hotel General Managers, and other senior managers to provide financial support and understanding of short and long-term financial plans at the hotels.

•Review financial performance of hotel departmental/area, analysis of variances, forecasts, budgets. Challenge existing strategies and/or recommend alternate strategies to continually improve effectiveness of the business or financial management.

•Coordinate and lead large multi-disciplinary projects including annual budget process, finance transformation initiatives and other special projects.

•Direct oversight of the Corporate Controller which includes responsibility for the Aqua-Aston corporate financial statements, reporting requirements, budgeting, and forecasting.

•Responsible for the oversight of the Condo Association finance team, including monthly reporting, and audits.

•Participate as a member of the “Opening & Transitions Team” to assist with the transition or disposition of properties in the portfolio.

•Mentor finance team members up and down the organization through inspiration and proactive development to create succession planning for the team.

•Along with the Corporate Controller partner with department heads at Aqua-Aston to provide financial support and guidance.

•Evaluates and ensures policy compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (USALI), accounting policies and procedures, financial controls, and activities within the company.

•Responsible for the quarterly signoff of all balance sheet reconciliations for the portfolio of hotels ensuring that they have been completed timely and accurately. As necessary, provides coaching on approach and preparation of balance sheet reviews.

•Develop and nurture relationships with owners. Ensure that the properties are responsive and compliant with required owner reporting and that they respond quickly to questions and requests. This position will be a direct resource to owners and lenders and will attend owner meetings on an as needed basis.

•Coordination with the risk management team on the annual insurance renewals.

•Manages the outsourced relationship with Accenture Hospitality Services.

•Takes initiative in leading, communicating, offering ideas/recommendations for improvement and in solving problems.

Candidate Profile

Education:

•Bachelor’s Degree in Business/Economics/Finance/Accounting

Experience:

•8-12 years of overall hospitality finance experience including previous regional or multi-property responsibility

Skills and Attributes:

•Strong excel proficiency and financial system/business intelligence experience is critical.

•Strong PC skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Powerpoint

•Strong organizational and time management skills

•Critical thinking and quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, with the ability to utilize logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions.

•Ability to exercise sound judgement and decision-making skills to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and to provide recommendations for optimal solutions.

•Strong communication (written and verbal) and comprehension skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex analytical topics to a wide audience who may or may not be familiar with the subject matter.

•Ability to work under tight deadlines and effectively handle multiple, concurrent demands and to appropriately prioritize responsibilities.

•Have initiative and a thirst for learning new things and finding opportunities for improvement.

•Ability and willingness to travel.
