AHL's office in downtown Honolulu is seeking a Specifier to join our highly creative and collaborative team. The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for specification writing for all project types.

AHL offers a hybrid office/remote 3/2 schedule and a 4-1/2 day work week.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred.
  • Minimum of six years general experience in all phases of architecture with minimum two years specific experience in full-time architectural specification writing.
  • Architectural degree preferred.

Certification

  • CSI membership recommended.
  • Architectural registration/LEED Accreditation preferred.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of quality, use, cost and availability of materials and equipment, methods of construction, and building codes.
  • Substantial knowledge of construction and liability laws and ethics.
  • Substantial knowledge of current developments in specification writing, and interrelation of contract documents, including current AIA General Conditions and forms.

Typical Duties

  • Prepares detailed specifications without supervision.
  • Researches, evaluates and recommends action on use of new material and methods.
  • Assists staff in selecting proper products or technical information as required.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgement with respect to production specification and product selection for projects undertaken by the office.
  • Maintains master specifications.
  • Assists and confers with project architect or project manager in compiling outline specifications.
  • Coordinates production of specification with consultants, agencies, and project staff.
  • Maintains a current data resource center.
  • Evaluates contractor's quotations for change orders, as requested.
  • Approval of material qualification in review of substitutions, submittals and shop drawings.
  • Assists Job Captain and/or Project Architect/Project Manager in coordinated checking of working drawings and details as specifications develop.
