Regular, Part-Time (75% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Hawai'i Sea Grant Ulana 'Ike Center of Excellence led project Kilo Honua: Utilizing Indigenous Ancestral Knowledge to Assess Historical Baselines of Marine Biodiversity in Hawai'i, located in Honolulu, Hawai'i.

state within the United States) may be permissible subject to review and approval by the Principal Investigator and RCUH. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MONTHLY SALARY RANGE: $4,700 - $5,222/Mon. (@75% FTE)

DUTIES:

Works with the Ulana 'Ike and partners on the Lenfest Foundation-funded project Kilo Honua: Utilizing Indigenous Ancestral Knowledge to Assess Historical Baselines of Marine Biodiversity in Hawai'i. Kilo Honua centers Native Hawaiian knowledge and perspectives to develop historical baselines of marine biodiversity in the nearshore ecosystems of Hawai'i. This knowledge will be utilized to examine the impact of natural and human-caused climate events through history to better inform management decisions of Hawaiian marine biodiversity. Results from this project will offer insight into Native Hawaiian resource management and facilitate critical conversations with state and federal agencies around broadening forms of monitoring data that can be used in management decisions. Responsible for creating and managing shared data repositories, ensuring data contracts are signed and up-to-date for each partner organization, every year; carrying out some of the consent processes for Indigenous Data Sovereignty (IDSov) including quality assurance, changing access to data; ensuring all project personnel and collaborators are training in IDSov protocols; and working with our partners on innovation in data practices (making contract templates to share, giving talks and training, and possibly doing horizon scans of best practices).

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university.

EXPERIENCE

Three to five (3-5) years of relevant computer science, coding, or data science experience.

KNOWLEDGE

Coding expertise: SQL or R or another coding language. Understanding of Native Hawaiian histories and cultures.

ABILITIES and SKILLS

Demonstrated written and communication skills.

Ability to effectively conduct work remotely (e.g., telework) as applicable.

Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to complete the UH Information Security Awareness Training (ISAT) within two (2) weeks from date of hire, and re-certify every twelve (12) months.

PHYSICAL/MEDICAL DEMANDS

Primary work is on the computer introducing possible ergonomic considerations.
