Salary Range:$71,798.00 To 71,798.00 Annually POSITION SUMMARY

School nursing practice requires the combination of professional clinical nursing practice with the promotionof thehealth, well-being, academic achievement, and success of the school-age child. The schoolnurseis called upon to work closely with school administrators, teachers, classroom assistants, office personnel, and technically advise theschoolto carry out a wide range of school health activities. TheCharter School RNis responsible for providing professional developmentandsupervision to theCharter School Health Technicians (from the Hawaii Keiki Program). This is a leadership position that will train, technically advise, mentor and supportCharter School Health Technicians. TheCharter School RNwill also participate in the committees and stakeholder groups supporting nursing practice in the school setting.

Meeting of the employees professional responsibility will be in line with the duties described below and in coordination with the Employees supervisor. While the Employee is not required to report toschools on days when campuses are closed, it is expected that the Employee will meet their professional responsibilities to the schools and program which may include attendance at scheduled meetings during non-student days. The Employee will have one administrative day each week to perform administrative and supervisory duties.

Locations: Voyager PCS and2 additional Charter School sites TBD, Mon - Fri 7:30-4:00pm (3-4 days at school sites) and 1-2 days Work from Home (WFH)

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

Leadership

  • Provides direct supervision for theHawaii Keiki Charter Health Technician.
  • Assures that HK services and activities are appropriately documented according to professional school nurse standards, quality assurance, and compliance.
  • Serves as the health care consultant for school personnel, students and their parents/families.
  • Provides professional health leadership to administrators and school staff.
  • Provides clinical supervision of charter schoolstaffassigned to the school health program.
  • Coordinates and participates in the establishment, review, and implementation of school health services, policies, and procedures, and manual updates
  • Implements communicable disease control inschools, including monitoring, surveillance and participating in disease prevention and outbreak managementon campus.
  • Participates in the developmentof the school'semergency health andcrisisplans.
  • Provides oversight for pediatric and adult standing orders.
  • Provides guidance and direction tostaff navigating clinical and inter-professional issues.
  • Coordinates and leadsteammeetings.
  • Serves as the primary liaison between Hawaii Keiki leadership and the staff under their management

Clinical Duties inAssigned Geographic Area

Assessment

  • Assesses the health needs of the assigned schoolsas requested.
  • Assesses and evaluates the total cumulative health records and medical reports on students.
  • Organizes and/or implements screening programs and refers students as appropriate.
  • Monitors compliance of students in regard to current immunization and communicable disease regulations.
  • Monitors the effects of medication with regard to the students health status and ability to benefit from the educational program.
  • Obtains health reports from medical sources and interprets these findingsforschool personnel.
  • Identifies health barriers to student academic improvement.

Planning

  • Identifies students health problems and plans individual programs to address actual and potential health problems.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary teams and committees, i.e., Admission/Review/Dismissal Team, Pupil Services Team, Teacher/Student Support Team,case conferences, and intake conferences.
  • Plans, with appropriate school personnel, modifications of the school program for students with health problems.
  • Participates in the development of Individual Education Program (IEP), Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and 504 Plans by determining those health factors pertinenttothe students most appropriate educational placement, as requested by the school principal/designee.
  • Plans health education activities based on an assessment of the health needs of the local school community.
  • Implements procedures for and executes emergency nursing management for injuries/illnesses in disaster preparedness and response.

Intervention

  • Implements protocols for emergency care for the ill and injured school population and refers them to appropriate sources of medical care.
  • Consults on needs of the medically fragile students as required.
  • Diagnoses and manages well-child conditions using evidence-based practice guidelines within the nurses licensure and scope of practice.
  • Shares and interprets information, in compliance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations, with school personnel regarding the health problems of students that might affect their learning and behavior in the school environment.
  • Collaborates with school and community agencies to provide educational, social and health services to the school population.
  • Employs the principles of learning and appropriate teaching methods to promote the optimal level of wellness for students.
  • Counsels students, parents, and school staff assisting them toward assuming responsibility for their individual and family health.
  • Refers students, their families, and faculty to community resources to meet identified needs.
  • Provides health education and information to students and staff to assist them to be competent, self-directed consumers of health services.
  • Serves as a health and wellness content resourcefor assigned schools.
  • Provides clinicaloversightand guidance toCharter Health Technicianregarding health room functions including maintenance of student records, adequate supplies, documentation of care, and preparation of reports to DOE and DOH as required.
  • Delegates nursing care tasks, functions, and activities toCharter Health Techniciansas appropriate and in accordance with the regulations of the Hawaii Nurse Practice Act.
  • Provides information to healthcare providers, school personnel, or community agencies regarding the health of individual students in order to ensure the appropriate delivery of services.
  • Coordinates with designated school staff in the interview and selection process for the Charter Health Technicians and provides input regarding Hawaii Keiki staff performance of clinical duties to school administration as required.

Evaluation

  • Evaluatesstudents responses to intervention and revises the plan of care as needed.
  • Evaluates accidents and injuries through a survey of accident reports or statistical analysis.
  • Prepares program reports as required.
  • Engages in research and evaluation of school health services to act as a change agent for school health programs and school nursing practices.
  • Contributes to the formation of health-related policies, goals, and objectives for the assigned schools.
