SMX is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineering Technician IV to support mission-critical Tactical and Remote Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Collaboration, and Intelligence (C5I) Edge Systems (TARCES) operations. This role is essential to designing, installing, and maintaining secure infrastructure and communication networks that enable operational success in remote, austere, and high-security environments for Department of Defense (DoD) and Federal clients. As an Engineering Technician IV, you will play a hands-on role in installing and troubleshooting fiber-optic and copper cabling, network communication enclaves, electronic security systems (ESS), and video management systems. You will also lead infrastructure planning efforts, conduct site surveys, develop system/facility drawings, and provide expert-level cable plant technology support. This role requires travel up to 75% (CONUS & OCONUS).
This position requires a DoD Secret with eligibility for TS/SCI which requires US citizenship for work on DoD contracts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Proficient in reading blueprints/schematics, developing/updating system/facility drawings in accordance with unified facility criteria regulations for Building, Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI), and other related industry standards (ie: Unified Facilities Criteria) and/or local guidance as required.
Install, troubleshoot, test, maintain, and provide updated diagrams/logical topologies for PoE and analog video management systems, network communication enclaves, splicing and terminating fiber optic/copper cabling, etc.
Install or maintain existing fire stopping systems in conduits, trays, wall/ceiling/floor penetrations in secure/non-secure facility spaces.
Light construction finishing tasks as required for project success.
Use OTDR, power meter (Fluke Versiv 2 software), optical fault locator, copper cable/fiber optic splicers, and other applicable test equipment as required for the assigned job.
Performs quality assurance testing of assemblies and equipment fabricated by other technicians.
Often assigned as on-site team lead and reports directly to Integration Team Project Manager.
Responsible for maintaining safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal requirements.
Attends project meetings with customer and SMX leadership to provide daily, weekly, and monthly project status updates as required.
Perform site surveys for rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimates and minimum equipment list (MEL) to assigned PM and/or PMO staff.
Ability to travel up to 75% of the time both CONUS and OCONUS.
Required Skills & Experience
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Five (5) to seven (7) 5-7 years of hands-on experience in network infrastructure, telecommunications, or low-voltage cabling.
Current industry certification in at least one of the following: NEC, BICSI, Lenel, Bosch, Hirsch/Identiv, Milestone, Audio-Visual Technologist, or Certified Technology Specialist.
At least two job-safety certifications (e.g., OSHA-10, OSHA-30, Fall Protection, CPR, Confined Spaces).
Ability to safely lift 50 lbs., work on ladders, scaffolding, or radio towers, and operate in secure facility spaces.
Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain/maintain TS/SCI.
Ability to obtain a valid U.S. Passport within 90 days of hire.
Desired Skills & Experience
Preference to bachelor’s degree in technology, Engineering, or related field.
Current BICSI Installer-2, Optical Fiber (INSTF) certification or higher.
Crestron Technician certification or higher.
Familiar with LKM locking devices.
Data Center experience.
At least two current OSHA certifications.
Ability to obtain an international driver’s license.

The proposed salary for this position is:
$90,200—$135,200 USD
