Accounting Manager

Classification Summary:

This position oversees a portion of the daily tasks within the finance office, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial processes. This role includes supervising and supporting accounting staff by assigning tasks, conducting performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing disciplinary actions as necessary. The position is responsible for preparing financial and analytical reports for management use, tracking and reconciling financial data within appropriate systems, and maintaining oversight of institutional compliance. Additionally, the position reviews and posts financial transactions, assesses the accuracy of financial documents, and ensures proper expense distribution to grants and fixed asset accounts. This role requires a high level of analytical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to support strategic financial decision-making. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Training and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a related field and three to five years of relevant work experience.

Supervise employees in the accounting department: work includes prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, coordinating staff training, and discipline of the assigned positions. (C4)

Prepare monthly financial reports and analytical data reports for management use. (B2)

Track financial information as needed in appropriate system software, ensuring accurate allocation and reconciliation within financial systems. Maintain oversight of relevant financial data to support institutional compliance and reporting needs. (C4)

Prepare, review, and post account transactions and journal entries as needed to distribute expenses to grants and fixed assets accounts. (C4)

Examine and evaluate financial documents to assess the accuracy and relevance of the presented financial information. (C4)

Perform other related duties of a comparable level/type as assigned.

Position Duties:

Ensure accuracy of Grants and Fixed Assets for Audit, Ensure accuracy of College's SEFA (Schedule of Expenditure of Federal Awards).

Ensure that Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Grant reporting and reimbursement requests are completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner.

Track financial investments and prepare journal entries for investment interest into appropriate software systems.

Coordinate and perform fiscal year-end fixed asset physical inventory while collaborating with various departments across all campuses to ensure effective inventory management within the accounting department.

Coordinate physical tagging of fixed assets. Track physical location of assets and all changes to location for such assets.

Track fixed assets expenditures through the general requisition, remittance of payment, capitalization, depreciation, and disposition lifecycle.

Determine allowable grant funded expenditures and submit reimbursement requests to various external agencies by specific deadlines.

Knowledge:

Accounting knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) theory;

Basic accounting principles and practices;

Automated accounting software packages.

Wage/Salary: $52,104 annually
