The primary purpose of this position, AIRCRAFT ENGINE MECHANIC LEADER, WL-8602-10, Leader is responsible for three or more workers and to both perform the work assigned by a supervisor and ensure that subordinates complete assigned work consistent with trades and labor standards. Responsibilities Lead a team of trades and/or labor workers. Perform nonsupervisory trades and/or labor work that is usually of the same kind and level as members of the work crew led. Troubleshoot one or more types or models of malfunctioning conventional and/or modified aircraft gas turbine engines on the flight line, or maintenance shops. Disassemble, repair, and reassemble aircraft engines, their assemblies, and components. Maintain current knowledge and answer questions from other workers on procedures, policies, written instructions, and directives. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-8600 Engine Overhaul Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: Ability to lead or supervise. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The work requires moderate to strenuous effort. Must stand, stoop. bend. and reach. Frequently handles items weighing up to 10 pounds, and often lift and carry, assemblies weighting 25 pounds or more with human or mechanical assistance. Hoists, hand trucks, lifts, and other employees are available to assist when handling heavy or awkward items. May be required to climb steps and ladders and stand on slippery or inclined surfaces. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in clean, well-lighted, and well-ventilated production areas. May work outside or inside in areas that are drafty and noisy, such as aircraft hangars. Stands on concrete or hard composition floors for long periods of time. Frequently exposed to grease and solvents, to noise from drills and hammers, and to the possibility of cuts and abrasions from handling tools. Education Additional Information Hill Air Force Base provides worldwide engineering and logistics management for the F-16 Fighting Falcon, A-10 Thunderbolt II, and the Minuteman III ICBM, and performs depot maintenance of the F-16, A-10, and C-130 Hercules aircraft. The base is located between Ogden and Salt Lake City. The area is known for year round activities, including skiing, hiking, boating, extreme sports, fishing and hunting, with four distinct seasons, low humidity and moderate snow fall in the valley.
