We are looking for experienced servers to join our 2025 team at the Ruffed Grouse Tavern in the Highlander Mountain House. A love for hospitality, service and a strong work ethic is paramount.

Highland Mountain Houseis a hilltop retreat on Main Street in the Highlands of North Carolina, offering guests a cozy and memorable experience while beckoning the locals to eat, drink and feel at home. Located in the heart of town in one of the most historic buildings, HMH and it's highly-anticipated seasonal tavern, the Ruffed Grouse, bring a new chapter to the revered old Main Street Inn. The Ruffed Grouse,housed inside, carries all the vibes ofHighlander Mountain House, capturing the spirit of camaraderie with the promise of good food and drink. With a bar, a restaurant and an active outdoor dining space, Ruffed Grouse serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner driven by the backbone of the area -- local and regional farms, the waterways and fisheries and above all, the seasons.

Taking inspiration from the taverns and pubs in Europe, Ruffed Grouse will be a communal gathering place for locals and travelers. From classic cocktails to excellent coffee service and from savory small plates to Sunday brunch, there will be wine, whit and excellent tavern fare.

Job Summary:

Provide food and beverage service to members and guests.

Job Tasks (Duties):

  • Sets up side station and performs assigned side work
  • Provides immediate attention to all members/guests upon seating
  • Distributes menus
  • Fills glasses with ice water; answers questions and suggests menu items
  • Takes members'/guests orders
  • Places orders with kitchen; informs cooks about any special cooking instructions
  • Assembles food on tray; procures items from each station as necessary
  • Serves meal; places dishes by courses in front of each person
  • Checks back to ensure member/guest satisfaction; replenishes water
  • Removes soiled dishes
  • Suggests and serves dessert, coffee, and after dinner drinks
  • Verifies accuracy of prices, state and federal taxes, tips and other charges on all checks
  • Presents the bill
  • Handles all cash and credit card charges as prescribed by standard operating procedures
  • Keeps tables, dining room and bus station areas clean
  • Advises supervisor of any complaints as soon as they occur
  • Performs clean-up and closing duties as assigned by manager
  • Attends pre and post line up meetings
