Research & Development Lab Engineer

The Research and Development (R&D) Lab Engineer is and individual contributor role responsible for maintaining the local R&D and Level 3 Support (L3) lab infrastructure and for providing technical support for New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, to include: receiving, tracking and installing of lab equipment. The lab(s) will consist of new emerging technologies (networking, server, storage, edge, and cloud) and are designed to establish support capabilities for Park Place Technologies (PPT). This position also provides technical support for L3 as needed and as directed by the Global Lab Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining standards:

  • Maintain world-class lab management and best practices with the Global Lab Manager.

  • Track lab access, environmental thresholds, equipment receipt and tracking, safety and quality standards and other relevant metrics.

  • Maintain any industry standard or PPT specific requirements for lab safety, maintenance, and enhancements. Review monthly (at minimum) with Global Lab Manager.

Development:

  • Track and report on development status including lab equipment tracking, lab equipment builds, availability of lab equipment on LabTrack and accessibility to the appropriate parties.

  • Coordinate with the Global Lab Manager on deployment of infrastructure and test beds. Maintain internal test hardware and platforms.

  • Maintain documentation for all lab equipment and remote monitoring/remote access solutions.

  • Assist with initial setup of subsystems and products as directed by the Global Lab Manager. This can include reconfiguring a system as a standalone when it was previously part of a larger system. Additional duties include:

  • Replacement of all components.

  • Create microcode archives.

  • Implementing maintenance best practices.

  • Learn and understand how to navigate the operating systems and tools used by the specific platform for the assigned project.

  • Assist with documentation creation for software, hardware and management tools as needed.

ParkView / Entuity Testing:

  • Collaborate with the Park Place’s development teams to provide access to the platforms required for testing and validating their products.

L3 Remote Hands:

  • Provide lab support to the various L3 engineering teams. To include swapping of components, re-cabling, MS-HoloLens engagement, and other related tasks.

  • Track and provide to the Global Lab Manager on L3 utilization of remote activity requests.

  • Interface and collaborate with Vendors, Product management, ParkView Ops, and L3.

  • Contribute to the R&D lab wiki, LabTrack and KCS.

Basic Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

Experience:

  • Three to Five (3-5) years of experience working with multiple OEM platforms (server, storage and networking) and cross-functional teams. Hands-on experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with remote access tools, including but not limited to: Beyond Trust, Putty, Remote Desktop, VNC and others.

  • Strong understanding of computer networks (SAN, Ethernet, InfiniBand, Virtual).

  • Excellent writing, research, and organizational skills.

  • Understanding of data center hardware, power, and cooling requirements.

  • Must be available to be on-call 7x24.

  • Experience in working with IT, Vendor and Facilities teams.

  • Manufacturer or standards certification preferred.
