Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Role Purpose

Lead the Quality team responsible for sustaining raw material incoming inspection testing, equipment calibration, and optical testing hardware and software support. This team ensures that the customer’s Critical to Quality needs are met by engaging with other groups like Process Engineering and Product Line Management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support software and hardware upgrades for Optical Testing

  • Lead improvement efforts for cost reduction and capacity improvement of Optical Testing processes

  • Manage internal and external Calibration requirements, while continually improving with cost reduction and capability

  • Manage Incoming Inspection of raw materials, ensuring compliance to material specifications

  • Comprehensive leadership of problem solving, issue resolution and follow through on quality related issues impacting manufacturing

  • Coach and develop your team of quality technicians and hourly associates in daily task responsibilities, as well as identified developmental areas

  • Partner with Technology and Engineering on enhancements and new raw material introductions, as well as optical testing requirements to ensure they are Capable of meeting customer specifications and expectations

  • Lead the team to understand internal and external customer's stated and implied needs, and ensure their expectations are met every time by monitoring, maintaining, supporting and continuously improving plant quality systems

  • Engagement with various levels of Corning Optical Communications management regarding quality, quality-related issues and problem solving

  • Ensure the plant maintains a robust Quality Management System

Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent technical degree

  • Five years’ work experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Solid understanding of and ability to execute and optimize manufacturing and quality principles

  • Base knowledge of statistical methodology and measurement assurance / calibration principles

  • Possesses ISO or TL Quality System fundamentals

  • Data based decision making skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills

Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Data acquisition, consolidation and analysis from multiple sources

  • Familiarity with product specifications and measurements

  • Statistical Process Control

  • Experience with ISO 9001 or similar certification process

  • Knowledge of internal and external auditing

  • Project management experience would also be a plus

The range for this position is $112,328.00 - $154,451.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
