JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Penn State College of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, in Hershey, PA, is seeking a part-time Translational Research Technologist to join the Georgakopoulos-Soares lab. The lab focuses on developing and implementing new computational methods in genomics and molecular biology. Current projects are aimed on the identification of genetic biomarkers for the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of human diseases, including bacterial and viral infections and of aging-associated diseases, including neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. We are also interested in the grammar of transcription regulation and in studying regulatory sequence function in biology and disease using computational approaches.
We are seeking a qualified research technologist with expertise in computational biology and programming with a focus in the identification of potential biomarkers and biostatistical methods, applying machine learning techniques to biological data. This position is part-time (up to 20 hours per week) to support the lab research and work based on their expertise and might be required to guide and supervise junior lab members with their research.
The candidate should have a strong publication record, experience with collaborative scientific project execution, as well as a commitment to mentoring and a desire to work in an interactive, diverse, and inclusive research group.
Applicants with experience in machine learning and bioinformatics are strongly encouraged to apply. This Researcher position will also be expected to contribute to manuscript preparation, grant preparation and submission and presentation of study-related outcomes at key scientific meetings.

Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor's degree or higher (master's degree preferred) with 7 years of related experience.
