Job Title:             Substitute SPED Teacher

Hiring Status:           At-Will

FLSA Status:            Non-Exempt

FTE:                           On-Call

Schedule:                  On-Call Monday – Friday 7:30 am – 4:00 pm

Reporting Days:       On-Call

Compensation:         Hourly

Evaluation Rubric:   N/A

Starting Pay:             $15 / hour

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education:          Bachelor's degree or substitute teaching certificate preferred

Experience:        Classroom experience preferred

Certification:      2 years of higher education OR accredited para certification    

Background:      Clear FBI background check 

Language:          Strong verbal and writing skills in English; Spanish fluency preferred

Job Duties

Classroom Instruction

  • Substitute teach students in grades Kindergarten – 8th grade as needed due to teacher absences or leaves of absence.

  • When subbing, create a classroom environment that cultivates learning, engages the interests of the students, and allows them to perform at their very best. 

  • Utilize provided academically rigorous lessons, unit plans, rubrics and assessments aligned to Athlos’ 3 foundational pillars of a Prepared Mind, Healthy Body, and Performance Character. 

  • Delivers instruction that engages students and ensures student growth and achievement in accordance with grade level standards. 

  • Differentiates instruction based on individual needs, learning style, and abilities.

Classroom and School Culture

  • Communicates a deep belief that all students can learn, and belong, in the classroom. 

  • Consistently implements school-wide management policies. 

  • Creates a positive learning environment by developing classroom rules, systems, and procedures.

  • Holds high expectations for student behavior at all times. 

  • Develops positive relationships with students, families, teachers, staff, and community members. 

  • Creates a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for all students, families, teachers, staff, and community members. 

Communication

  • Communicates professionally with parent/guardians and the community. 

  • Communicates with lead teacher to meet expectations

  • Communicates regularly with school leadership and other faculty to maximize effective instructional activities. 

Professionalism

  • Models the Athlos culture. 

  • Implements school policies. 

  • Tracks student attendance, behavioral issues, and classroom events. 

  • Gives and receives positive and constructive feedback from colleagues. 

  • Honors schedules and deadlines. 

Other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge and Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or Google Classroom and video platforms such as: Zoom or Teams.  

  • Strong facilitation skills with the ability to engage the entire classroom.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Experience working in diverse communities and a deep appreciation for diverse perspectives.

  • Demonstrated integrity and high standards in managing information in a confidential and professional manner.

  • Must be able to spend much of the day standing or mobile throughout the classroom.

  • Must be able to have repetitive wrist/hand/finger movement to work on computer and/or related office equipment.

  • Ability to handle potentially high stress conditions.
