Job Description:

The Surveillance and Automation Solutions (S&AS) business area within L3Harris Technologies is seeking a dynamic systems engineer with RF propagation and modelling experience to support designing surveillance system in real-world environments. The successful candidate will also perform systems engineering activities in support of new and ongoing air traffic surveillance projects.

Essential Functions:

The primary responsibilities of the role include the following:

  • Perform systems analysis and design activities for large air traffic surveillance systems.

  • Define and manage system requirements in DOORS together with MBSE models.

  • Develop RF coverage models for radio sites accounting for the impact of frequency, terrain, and structures.

  • Conduct site selection activities for radio stations maximizing the performance of the site.

  • Conduct interference analysis and develop approaches to mitigate the interference at existing radio sites.

  • Design microwave links between remote facilities. This includes path analysis, locating antennas, and identifying the hardware needed to implement the link.

  • Present the results of the design and analysis activities to peers within the engineering organization, management, and customers.

  • Coordination and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, as appropriate.

  • Fully versed in all aspects of RF propagation theory

  • Must be able to obtain an FAA Position of Public Trust clearance.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Math, Engineering, or Physics with 6 years’ experience in telecommunications and/or information systems. Master's degree and 4 years of experience in telecommunications and/or information systems. In lieu of degree, 10 years of experience in telecommunications and/or information systems.

  • 6 years experience in all aspects of RF propagation theory.

  • Four (4) or more years’ experience in developing RF coverage models and analysis for systems operating above 900 MHz.

  • Experience with RF systems design, development, integration, and verification.

  • Experience with design and specification of telecommunication systems.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience with mixed on-premises and Cloud environments.

  • Experience with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or Micro Services architecture.

  • DOORs and MBSE modeling experience.

  • Direct experience with FAA surveillance systems.

  • Hands-on experience with radio and RADAR systems.

  • Working knowledge of air traffic control systems and their operation.

  • Programming experience with C/C++, Python, Perl, etc.

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills to present information to stakeholders.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, MS Project, Visio, MATLAB, requirements management tools, and UML tools.
