The Jacobs Virginia Transportation team is searching for a motivated Senior Drainage Design Engineer who can utilize their technical and design skills to deliver highway-related infrastructure projects. This opportunity is your chance to work on multi-disciplined transportation projects that focus on highway, roadway, and interchange projects.

When you join us, you’ll perform civil design calculations, computer modeling, detailing, and plan set production for highway, roadway, sitework, drainage, and utilities projects with an emphasis on hydrology and hydraulics.

You’ll utilize your expertise to conduct drainage design per the requirements of each project and various clients such as Departments of Transportation, Cities / Municipalities and private owners.

We’ll ask you to prepare drainage reports, feasibility studies and drainage master plans utilizing drainage software – OpenRoads Drainage, StormCAD, CivilStorm, PondPack, CulvertMaster, FlowMaster, and HY8. You’ll also need to utilize hydrology / hydraulic software – HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS and SWMM.

As a key member of the team, you’ll prepare engineering, construction cost estimates and attend kick-off and design review meetings, and interact with clients as level of experience progresses. You’ll provide mentorship and guidance to more junior staff.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia

  • Substantial experience in hydrology, hydraulics and drainage design

  • Exercise sound judgment in the evaluation, selection and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria within the civil engineering discipline.

  • Knowledge of green infrastructure and sustainable design techniques as they relate to storm water management.

  • Demonstrated track record of roadway design experience with VDOT. Knowledge of VDOT design standards and design criteria is required.

  • Working knowledge of CAD Systems - MicroStation and AutoCAD.

  • Proficient in drainage software – OpenRoads Drainage, StormCAD, CivilStorm, PondPack, CulvertMaster, FlowMaster, and HY8.

  • Proficient in hydrology / hydraulic software – HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS and SWMM.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and technical writing skills.

  • Efficiently utilize time in executing assigned tasks accurately and on time.

  • Capable of performing Civil Engineering tasks in the fields of roadway engineering and site design when needed.
