Summary This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The Summer Hire Program is from May to August 2025. Management may fill multiple vacancies. Responsibilities Operates large, complex riding mowers and mower equipment with multiple and independently controlled cutting decks Cuts limbs, trees, and clears bushes and shrubs requiring the use axes and chain saws. Digs ditches and trenches with pick and shovel where dirt is hard and compact. Assists in the construction and landscaping of campsites and picnic sites. Loads and unloads heavy (e.g., objects weighing in excess of 80 pounds) boxes, bulky supplies and material to and from trucks, pullies, etc... Constructs wooden sign frames, replaces or repairs aged, damaged or missing signs, and sets signposts. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Laborer without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common landscape maintenance procedures. I can trim shrubs, plant grass, and /or lift moderately heavy items . I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work in this position exerts very heavy physical effort in lifting and carrying objects, e.g., cartons, boxes and sacks weighing in excess of 80 pounds. Operates large, riding mowers on steep grades and in areas with visible obstacles that require significant maneuvering and lever control. Cuts trees with an ax or chain saw, digs ditches or trenches with pick and shovel, and pushes wheelbarrows of cement, asphalt and other materials. The position works outside in a variety of weather and inside in areas that may be dusty, drafty, dirty and noisy. Employee is frequently subject to cuts, bruises, muscle strains and sprains and to an occasional chance of serious injury (e.g., broken bones or back injuries). The use of equipment, tools and tasks frequently require extreme care and use of safety gloves, ear plugs, and safety glasses to avoid such serious injury while using tools and equipment. Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
