Army Tank-Automotive and Armament Command (TACOM) Utility Systems Repairer-Operator (Direct Hiring Authority) in Herlong Sierra Ordnance Depot, California

Summary About the Position: Sierra Army Depot is located in Herlong CA, a rural town in Northern California. Herlong is approximately 60 miles north of Reno, NV, and 35 miles south of Susanville, CA. The depot serves as an Army Expeditionary Logistical Support Center. Employees work Mon-Thurs, 0630-1700 hrs. Youth Facilities and childcare available. Mass transportation is available at minimal cost. Surrounding area boasts a full range of outdoor sports/recreation activities. Responsibilities Installs, repairs, overhauls, and/or performs service and preventive maintenance on a variety of ancillary equipment. Troubleshoots and diagnoses equipment to trace and locate defects and malfunctions. Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines Repairs, installs, overhauls, and/or performs service and preventive maintenance to auxiliary equipment (motors, blowers, filters, thermostats, pressure stats, humidistat, relays, switches, etc.). Makes routine checks for, maintenance/repair of gas or oil building/home heating units and appliances. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Utility Systems Repairer-Operator (Direct Hiring Authority) without more than normal supervision. I have ability to perform common duties including troubleshoot and repair radiant heating, evaporative coolers, and HVAC units. I can test control mechanisms (such as sensors, switches, and relays) and have a working knowledge of stand-alone hydronic, oil, and gas fired boiler systems and knowledge of how to test for refrigerant leaks in heat pump systems. I work under the normal supervision of a work leader of journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Work involves repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and where the parts of systems worked on are in hard-to-reach places. This requires incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 40 pounds or more. The operator works in the constant high temperatures from the boilers. He is exposed to the danger of boiler bursts; carbon monoxide poisoning; scalds; and gas or oil fumes. Cuts, bruises and broken bones may result from accidents while working around machinery and equipment Education Additional Information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
