    LPN Teacher

    Position PurposeUnder the general supervision of the Nursing Coordinator and reporting to the administrator, Licensed Practical Nursing Teachers teach student nurses or other professionals in classroom, laboratory and clinical environments utilizing an approved curriculum and visual aids. They stay aware of the developments in the world of nursing so that they may incorporate them into their studies and teachings. In addition to working in classrooms, nursing teachers work in medical facilities and community centers. Essential Functions

    · Demonstrates and teaches patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students and instructs students in principles and application of physical, biological, and psychological subjects related to nursing.

    · Lectures to students, conducts and supervises laboratory work, issues assignments, and directs seminars and panels.

    · Supervises student nurses and demonstrates patient care in clinical units of hospital.

    · Prepares and administers examinations, evaluates student progress, and maintains records of student classroom and clinical experience.

    · Participates in planning curriculum, teaching schedule, and course outline.

    · Cooperates with medical and nursing personnel in evaluating and improving teaching and nursing practices.

    · May specialize in specific subject, such as anatomy, chemistry, psychology, or nutrition, or in type of nursing activity, such as nursing of medical or surgical patients.

    · May conduct classes for patients in health practices and procedures.

    · Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual small group instruction as needed.

    · Instructs students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school.

    · Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

    · Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.

    · Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.

    · Ensures that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and school district policies, and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

    · Coordinates with other school professional staff members, especially within grade level and specific subjects, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in faculty meetings and committees.

    · Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom and lab during the school day, including activities involving school transportation.

    Additional Duties

    · Performs other related tasks as assigned by the administrator and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

    Equipment

    · Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

    Travel Requirements

    · Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    · Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.

    · Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature and other content areas taught.

    · Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.

    · Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.

    · Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.

    · Ability to organize and coordinate work.

    · Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.

    · Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.

    · Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

    Safety Requirements:

    · Adheres to all applicable professional safety standards and practices in the nursing field, including requirements set forth in federal and state law, and Occupational Safety and Health regulations.

    · Implements Board Policy regarding Blood Borne Pathogens and other Board policies regarding the medical or health care of employees and students.

    Travel Requirements:

    · Frequent travel between schools may be required.

    Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

    · Work in standard school building environment.

    · Works in hospital and other clinical settings.

    · Exposure to body secretions, blood borne pathogens, medicine and medicinal supplies, illnesses and diseases.

    Certification/License:

    · New York State Certification as an Adult Education Teacher.

    · Registered professional nurse, designated as R.N. as defined and determined by state law, and currently licensed in the state.

    · Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.

    Education:

    · Bachelors from an accredited college or university in education discipline applicable to teaching assignment.

    · Masters Degree in related area preferred.

    Experience

    · Successful prior teaching experiences in nursing a plus.
