Summary:
Operates computerized diagnostic and interventional equipment to produce high quality imaging as directed by physician. Follow established protocols and standards of radiation protection. Assist radiologist / cardiologist/ vascular surgeon in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures in the special procedures/Cath lab or in surgery. Performs a variety of technical, diagnostic, therapeutic and patient care tasks for patients with cardiovascular disease using radiological and cardiovascular sciences. Tasks performed include radiographic imaging, manipulation of equipment, use of intra-aortic balloon pump, hemodynamic monitoring and recording, appropriate documentation to support compliance and billing, patient preparation and post procedure care, procedure room set up and cleaning, and quality monitoring.
Responsibilities:
• Ensures room is prepared for the upcoming procedure. Sets up and prepares suite for upcoming procedures, including sterile trays, catheters, wires, contrast and other supplies needed as guided by the physician. In conjunction with nursing, uses professional manners and methods, verifies patient identification, obtains patient history, assists patients and family members that require extra attention, insures patient understanding whenever possible, participates in procedural time out and insures patient safety. Lead shielding is used on all children and adults of child bearing age (when possible according to exam) and closes exam room doors ensuring privacy and safety.
• Technologist is able to operate IR room/Cath lab power injectors, c-arm and other necessary equipment to provide radiographic support during procedures.. Assists physicians with obtaining digital radiographic images of heart, peripheral vessels and any other required structures. Appropriately controls radiographic equipment to acquire quality images. Pans the radiographic table so that the physician visualizes desired structures. Appropriately sets x-ray acquisition parameters for cardiac and peripherals to provide quality images. Practices radiation safety by utilizing distance and appropriate protective attire. Demonstrates knowledge of a variety of procedures and techniques and applies these to skillfully meet comprehensive needs of the patient. Anticipates patient and physician needs, alerts physician to changes in patient condition, and contributes to the plan in an organized and timely manner. Demonstrates expert knowledge in the technical areas of hemodynamics, diagnostic, interventional and peripheral procedures including devices and protocols
• Technologist makes sure rooms are stocked (including linen) with all supplies needed to preform exams. Notify lead staff or supervisor of supply needs (before completely out), keeping budget in mind. Daily Room Preparations. Performs daily room QCs and notifies appropriate people of variances. Prepares procedure room and equipment for daily use and each procedure. Ensures enough stock on hand to accommodate routine daily case volumes. Conducts in-room inventory and supply management. Is aware of and stores all patient care products according to JCAHO regulations.
• Maintains thorough understanding of SYNAPSE, CUPID and hemodynamic monitoring computer systems. Verifies and manipulates images at the workstation as necessary, and verifies image transmission is complete. Completes, modifies and/or cancels orders in an appropriate and timely manner, cancels duplicate orders to avoid duplicate billing within EPIC, and insures that all charge information is accurate. Scans, attaches consents and “assigns” images when necessary. Ensures quality and accuracy of reported laboratory data. Reports variances to physician and ensures that variances have been addressed. Ensures all recorded data is accurate and makes corrections as needed. Technologist organizes, monitors, records, evaluates, and maintains patient information. Wears film badges appropriately, daily, and wears apron when indicated and practices radiation safety measures at all times.
• Performs other duties as assigned including routine diagnostic radiology procedures when not involved in IR/Cath procedures. Assists in other areas when workflow allows. Works in an organized and timely fashion by prioritizing tasks to ensure efficient and efficacious patient care. Meets challenges of case volumes and patient care issues to ensure optimal care and outcomes. Performs task in a timely manner, works well without extensive supervision, runs the schedule creating a consistent workflow, available at assigned work area, , volunteers to work on challenging tasks, difficult procedures and new research, produces quality diagnostic images, scan and attach documents properly into synapse, reviews patient's chart and reports for correlation, maintains a clean and orderly work environment, complies with policies and procedures concerning infection control and safety.

Qualifications
Hired candidates are expected to obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification after hire. Training and assessment opportunities will be provided.
Required
• Must be eligible to sit for Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification exam within 18 months of hire
• Completion of an accredited educational program in Radiological Science, Emergency medicine, Surgical Technology or other related health care field.
• Completion of EKG/Arrhythmia course.
