Position Overview

This is an open and continuous recruitment which will remain open and close without notice once a sufficient pool of highly-qualified candidates has been created.

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list to fill two (2) vacancies for the classification of Utility Maintenance Aide (Part-Time) - Field Operations in the Department of Utility Services. The consideration for hire list list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of manual labor tasks associated with the routine maintenance and repair of water, sewer, and utility facilities and assists with general warehouse and inventory duties; performs related duties as assigned.

These positions will be assigned to Field Operations:

  • Assists journey-level personnel in the construction, installation, maintenance, leak detection, and repair of the City’s Public water distribution, reclaimed water, and wastewater collection system

  • Responds to a variety of calls to investigate leaks and other miscellaneous issues, creates work orders, dig tickets, and leak routes accordingly

  • Maintains electronic records of work performed, materials and supplies used, and inventory of supplies

Special Note:

  • The current two vacancies are for part-time, PERS-eligible positions.

  • The expected schedules for the current vacancies is Tuesday - Thursday, 6:00 am - 4:00 pm.

  • This position does not qualify for employer-paid benefits, wage increases, or union representation.

  • This list may be utilized to fill future vacancies for both non-PERS eligible and PERS eligible positions. Information pertaining to the PERS status will be communicated to candidates during the interview process.

Minimum Qualifications

When Assigned to Field Operations

  • Graduation from high school, or the equivalent

  • One (1) year of full-time experience performing construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution, reclaimed water, and wastewater collection system

  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483

  • Must obtain an OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety and Health Training Certificate within thirty (30) days of hire

  • May be expected to obtain certification through the City of Henderson in Forklift, CPR, First Aid, Fire Extinguisher, HazMat, Confined Space Entry, and Infectious Disease

  • Must obtain and maintain City Forklift Certification within thirty (30) days of hire as a condition of continued employment

  • Must possess and maintain all required licenses and certificates, as mandated by state and federal laws and local regulatory agencies, or required herein.

Selection Process

VACATION

  • Accrued at 9.5 hours per month after first year through fifth year; 12.67 hours per month sixth through twelfth year; 15.83 hours per month upon completion of twelfth year and beyond

    SICK LEAVE

  • Accrued at 9.5 hours per month from date of hire

    BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

  • Three consecutive days of leave, with pay, per occurrence, to attend funeral for immediate family member; increased to one work week when funeral is held 400 statute miles or more from City of Henderson

    HOLIDAYS

  • 13 paid holidays per year

  • Two (2) floating holidays per year

  • The ability to bank holidays, up to 228 hours, that fall on an employee’s regularly scheduled day off

WORK WEEK

  • Four-day, 9.5-hour workday, 38-hour work week

  • Three-day, 12-hour workday, 38-hour work week for certain positions

UNIFORM ALLOWANCE

  • Uniform Allowance - $85.00 per month to employees required to wear a uniform, or $115.00 if required to wear fire retardant clothing

  • A $175.00 shoe allowance is provided on an annual basis to those employees required to wear ANSI Z41-1991 or above rated safety shoes
