The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Fire and Life Safety Technician in the Department of Public Works. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year depending on employment status.**

Under general supervision, performs skilled and semi-skilled trades work maintaining, repairing, and installing City fire and life safety systems, as well as maintaining City buildings and facilities; and performs related duties as assigned.

**NOTE TO APPLICANTS

Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.

Probationary full-time, part-time, temporary employees, and external candidates who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on separate list(s), which may be used to fill vacancies for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees, the separate list(s) may be utilized.

External candidates, probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary City of Henderson employees will start at the first step of the salary range, if selected.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school, or the equivalent.

  • Four (4) years of full-time skilled experience in installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fire suppression systems, fire alarm systems, or fire sprinkler systems.

  • Required work experience must also have included skilled experience in building maintenance.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada State Fire Marshal F-Card OR G-Card at the time of application, and must obtain the other certification within 12 months of employment as a condition of continued employment.

  • Note: An equivalent combination of related training and experience may be considered.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483.

  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.

  • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment.

The assessment and selection process for this position will take place on the dates listed above.
