KLJ Senior Structural Engineer - Bridge Design in Helena, Montana
Description
KLJ is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Structural Engineer - Bridge Design to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will help pursue larger structural engineering projects and oversee and manage engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency. This role requires strong technical expertise in structural engineering, project management proficiency and excellent leadership abilities. Responsibilities
- Project Management:
- Lead and manage structural projects from initiation to closeout; ensuring adherence to project scope, budget, and schedule.
- Develop project plans and reports, schedules and budgets in collaboration with the team.
- Coordinate with clients, stakeholders and other engineering/planning disciplines to ensure project objectives are met.
- Monitor project progress, identify risk and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful project.
- Conduct regular project meetings, provide updates and communicate with project team members to ensure alignment and accountability.
- Demonstrates competency in multiple project phases (planning, design, construction, etc.)
- Structural Engineering:
- Provide technical expertise in structural design, reports, estimates and construction. Lead/assist with design, plans and specifications as needed.
- Perform/oversee modeling and analysis using industry standard software.
- Review and approve reports to ensure concurrence with KLJ quality standards.
- Conduct site visits, inspections and assessments as needed to support project requirements.
- Conduct public input/engagement meetings as required by the project.
- Client Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, resolving issues and managing expectations throughout the project life cycle.
- Cultivate strong client relationships and identify opportunities for addition project work.
- Ensure client satisfaction by delivering high-quality engineering and planning solutions that meet or exceed expectations.
- Team Leadership:
- Provide leadership, guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, planners and project team members.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development.
- Delegate tasks effectively, monitor performance and provide feedback to support individual and team growth.
- Serves as a technical resource/lead on projects or tasks for large scale projects.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, regulations and industry best practices.
- Review project deliverable for accuracy, completeness and compliance with quality standards.
- Implement quality assurance processes and procedures to enhance project outcomes and deliverables.
Qualifications
Education:
- A bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited post-secondary institution.
- PE is required.
Preferences:
- 15+ years of relevant experience
- PMP, PgMP, PfMp, CAPM or equivalent certification
- Master's degree with Structural focus
- Previous project management experience in a professional services firm
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong understanding of codes, regulations and industry standards related to structural engineering.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact with clients, team members and stakeholders.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience in pursuit and management of structural engineering projects.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced world.
- Judgment and interpretation is required to select or establish appropriate guidelines in a given situation
- Use common courtesy while interacting with people to satisfactorily perform the job.

Hours and Travel
This position requires the individual work 40+ hours per week with 90% of the time spent in the office and 10% in the field.

The salary for this position is expected to range between $126,000 - $148,000. This estimated salary represents the middle of the range. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include education (or applicable experience), training, job location, competencies relevant to the role, and internal equity.
