In addition to employee benefits, there are a wide range of advancement opportunities throughout the Department of Revenue. _DUTIES_ Job Overview: This position resides in theTechnology Services DivisionofDepartment of Revenue. The Database Analyst plans, develops, and manages database and application server operations and enhancements to ensure systems meet user needs, comply with state and federal regulations, and are operating efficiently within state standards. The Database Analyst is responsible for the performance, data integrity, and security of the agency’s MS SQL Server databases and critical applications. Key responsibilities include: 1) Provides guidance to Application Services Bureau (ASB) personnel when problems arise; 2) Installs, configures, and tests Microsoft SQL Server software packages and new software releases; 3) Monitors database performance and statistics, and conducts maintenance to ensure efficient system operations; 4) Configures, maintains, and administers Microsoft SQL Server database environments for critical DOR applications including GenTax and Assessment & Tax Pro. The Database Analyst will have on-call responsibilities outside of normal business hours. The position does not supervise other staff. Key Responsibilities Include: * Provides database backup and recovery strategies and provide guidance to other database and ASB personnel when problems arise in database backup and recovery situations. * Analyzes, develops, and implements solutions to resolve database problems. * Provides analytical and technical assistance, guidance, and direction to coworkers. * Develops scripts for server and database maintenance. * Determines problems and support for application batch processing on mid-tier servers. * Prepares and provides training and documentation for programmers and technical support staff. * Provides technical guidance in the use of Microsoft SQL Server programming products, designing database structures, maintaining data integrity, and ensuring the security of Microsoft SQL Server databases. * Installs, configures, and tests Microsoft SQL Server software packages and installs new software releases. * Monitors database performance and statistics and conducts maintenance to ensure efficient operation of the system. * Establishes and maintains database security roles to ensure database access is enforced for department employees, consultants, and the public. * Configures and maintains replicated database environments, utilizing databases located in multiple sites, for high availability and disaster recovery purposes. * Analyzes and evaluates agency business processes, system specifications, associated costs, and applicable policies and procedures to determine viable solutions to computer system issues. * Develops standard operating procedures for those areas to bring improved efficiency and effectiveness to the work unit. * Provides automated solutions and alternatives to the agency’s business needs that are compatible, efficient, and cost effective. * Manages database and application server enhancement, and maintenance efforts to ensure projects are completed within established timeframes. * Establishes database and application server maintenance policies and procedures with supervisor, contractors, and management. * Identifies potential threats and liabilities to computing systems and alerts the Computer Security Specialist. /Knowledge of:/ * Concepts and theories of information systems, databases, and computer science * System design, and system implementation within a large public agency * Computer operating systems, equipment, and software * Databases and data management tools * Database security and protection * Information systems development, enhancement, and maintenance * Systems analysis, design, testing, and customer service standards * Telecommunications and information systems networking * Data structures and interrelationships / / /Skills in:/ * Research and analysis * Accuracy and attention to detail * Microsoft programs and other data base applications * Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication * Managing complex and varied system development and project implementation * Isolating and resolving technical problems * Reading and interpreting technical manuals and data reports / / You would be a great fit for this position if you have: * Demonstrate self-motivation * //Follow instructions * //Provide timely, customer service * //Handling multiple priorities under deadlines * //Translate technical information to varied audiences// To be considered for any DOR position, applicants must complete and submit their application online, and upload any required documents.
